Ooh, Simply, UK, I'm very impressed!
Rich, have you put your name down for the nike+ park run thingy? Think you get to keep the watch? Surely you and Becky would be great for their mileage totals!0 -
Good work Rich, those times are just amazing to me. After the marathon I'm going to concentrate on improving the times for my shorter runs, I think I can reduce them quite a lot! Well that will be the new goal!
I'm actually having a bit of a play at the moment on the basis that I dont need the rest that was scheduled after the marathon.
There are 4 x 10 mile races coming up - all that are on fast courses that I've run before.
So I'm replicating the training that I did, wait for it, 22 years ago in the lead up to my 10 mile PB. At the moment I'm around 50 secs/mile behind the fitness that led to the 55:37 10 mile time....so the aim is to close that gap as much as possible.:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
Blackpool Marathon 11/4/2010 (Target=2:59:59) (6:52/mile)
Abingdon Marathon 17/10/2010, (Target=2:48:57) (6:27/mile)

I saw that, but dont really see what its about.
Its seems to be an attempt to create a bit of healthy competition between parkruns.....but the whole point is that you try as many parkruns as possible rather than 'belonging' to one in particular. So I'm confused what its about....Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

So, Rich is trying to relive his youth, and performance of 22 years ago - I must set this challenge to my hubby! ha ha!
The Nike+ thing seems to simply be a record of miles covered during a period for park run teams - a bit odd, and as you say, a little against the ethos of park run! But as Park run is free, I see why they take up all these promotional gismos! Commercial madness, but funds something great that's free!0 -

Hehe;)
On that subject, if I wanted an indication of what is possible I couldnt have found a better example than Nigel Thompson of Lytham St. Annes.
This is spooky - I think I may have been cloned:rotfl::
Comparison:
Date Of Birth: Me 23/5/66, NT 23/5/66
5K PB: Me 16:16, NT 16:13
4 Mile PB: Me 21:52, NT 21:44
10K PB: Me 33:30, NT 33:54
10 Mile PB: Me 55:37, NT 55:31
1/2 Mar PB: Me 1:14:04, NT 1:14:23
On the marathon front, as you know earlier this year I set a target of 2:43, with an ultimate target of 2:40.
This guy has run 3 marathons this year at Blackpool, London and Edinburgh - the times were 2:40, 2:40 and 2:43.
Quite apart from the fact that I am in awe that he ran all those 3 times within 8 weeks, including coming 2nd in Blackpool, the parallels with my targets is weird.
We've also been in the same race at least 3 times this year at Trimpell, Blackpool and Freckleton.
Its almost as if someone deliberately set up an athlete profile to encourage me as to what is possible.
