Wow some more good running Simply :D
  • Nice work, Simply!

The combination of yesterday's and today's runs prove that Sunday was nothing more than a blip due to conditions.

It looks as though you could have comfortably beaten the Chippenham time this morning in training if you'd wanted to ....... so all looks well.:D

I am going to go for a run today (its been 3 weeks) hopefully my back will be ok. I am toying with the idea of the lancaster half in november but it might be a bit ambitious seeing as my furthest run has been 9m so far and I would want to put in a responsible time.

If I work backwards from race day in my plan I would have to be able to do a 10m run in the next couple of days (doesnt sound so bad now I have typed it out :o) Sod it I will run for the next three days and see how I feel and what times I am doing.

Do you think Im being ambitious rich and what is a responsible time (or reasonable :D)

    TTFN

Has anyone done the Lancaster half? I think it was described as undulating.

Thanks Rich and Becky (sorry Becky I don't know how to double quote) :D

Both runs so far this week have been comfortable which makes Sunday's performance all the more frustrating. I know that I can run a half but for both races the elements have conspired against me. Still winter is on it's way so I'll just keep entering them until I get a cool day :rotfl:

That's a really cool site Uk; but you are naughty frightening people with elevations like that

Good luck with the 10 miles KYCU!!!!

A week on Sunday for my 10k race, having never raced/run before is there anything I should know for race day?
Following :money: to keep us debt free :j
  • HANNAH - I've only run a handful of races myself and was really nervous before the first one. My top tips would be to get there in plenty of time to allow for queuing for the toilet, warming up and generally getting a feel for the place.

I always start out near the back of the field; if you are too near the front you'll get caught up with all the speedy runners and there's a danger you'll run out of steam. Most of all though - set out at a nice slow pace and just relax and enjoy it. :D:D

Oh, I nearly forgot the most important tip - if there are photographers don't forget to smile as you pass them :rotfl::rotfl:

Hannah - What Simply says plus dont forget to smother vaseline everywhere until you get used to where the vulnerable bits are!:p Also safety pins for your number are one of the commonest things to be overlooked. Oh and dont forget your own supply of loo roll.

Above all though, dont get too worked up about it - its no different to any other bit of tarmac of the same length.

KYCU - Its up to you re the half marathon. Personally, I wouldnt advise anyone to tackle a half marathon until they've well and truly conquered the distance in training and gone well beyond (say 16-17 miles). Otherwise, it is just going to be a real grind on the day - a half marathon is hard enough when you're properly prepared, just ask Simply after Sunday's experience.

Having said that, when the GNR kicks off on Sunday I dare say there will be more people in the field that have never run 13 miles than have - thats probably more an indication of the 'quick fix, minimal effort' mentality that seems to have become the norm though.

To enjoy races though it is far better to be ready and prepared for them.:D
