Do the other results tie up with your 10k and 10 mile times?

I find that the calculator is too generous for me at the longer distances...for example at my best 5k time it was predicting a 4 hour marathon amd a 1:53 half - but my times are 4:31 and 1:56 so beware of the creep...even if I put in my best half time it still gives me 4:05!

the 10m is what I was at when going around bristol 1/2 at that mark give or take a few seconds.... as for 10k... last time I timed that distance was back in March I think :D and was about 52 mins :o.

Havent been on for a while now as my eldest child started school last week and I have been very busy!!

Got out twice last week Monday and Tuesday!!

Monday 7/09 4.5 miles cant remember the time
Tuesday 8/09 6.5 miles 57.20 ran home from week

Monday 14/09 5.5 miles 45.52 which was hard but not surprising as it was 8.39 min/miles my fastest yet!!

I need to get more consistant in my runs at least 3 a week but as the mornings are now dark its hard to get out in the evenings!!

    Good morning peeps :D

I took my new 'super size' shoes for a blast on my fartlek session this morning and very comfortable they were too. My legs were less tired than I expected so all good here.

I've been (over) analysing Sunday's race and the only difference between training and racing is that I don't take my ipod to races. I'm wondering if the absence of music is making me more aware of how I feel on race days so from today the ipod is being left in it's box. No more music on training runs for me.

Rich - can you please add me to the list for the Burnham-on-Sea Half Marathon on Sunday 4 October?

It's a small race, limited to 500, and there is a 2.30 cut off. I calculate that if I run it at training pace 10.30-11.00/mile then I'll come in at around 2.20 (ish). I might even get to be last - woo hoo. :D

  • Just had an email from my colleague at work who was also doing the GNR, she's had to pull out.
She's totally gutted, the infected blister that she had is worse and the infection has tracked up the tendon, there's now scar tissue as well.
She's seeing a new physio who said she must not run at all!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.
  • UK, the calculators are all WAVAs in one way or another. The times you have brought up based on your 1:31:00 1/2 marathon throw up the following WAVAs:

    1 Mile 5:41 65.80%
    2 Miles 12:07 66.87%
    3 Miles 18:59 66.09%
    5K 19:41 65.91%
    8K 32:27 65.69%
    10K 40:54 65.95%
    15K 1:03:22 65.39%
    10 Miles 1:08:31 65.19%
    20K 1:26:41 64.99%
    1/2 Marathon 1:31:00 65.55%
    30K 2:13:14 65.49%
    Marathon 3:11:55 66.09%

The times should only be taken as a rough guide because they assume, obviously, that you are equally good, relative to the world record, at both ends of the distance spectrum......which usually wont be the case.

Although they do work out pretty well from my own experience (except for the marathon) :

    5K 16:16 79.75%
    10K 33:30 80.52%
    10Miles 55:37 80.31%
    1/2 Marathon 1:14:04 80.53%
    30K 1:52:07 77.82%
    Marathon 2:48:58 75.06%

So this shows that my preferred distances are 5K to 1/2 marathon and, relatively, I am not as strong at anything beyond this.

This makes sense because I have never been ideal marathon racing weight and additional weight has a much higher penalty factor once you get beyond 1/2 marathon. And since ideal marathon weight would be 9st 2lbs and the lowest racing weight I can recall is about 10st 7lbs that is quite a chunk of excess baggage which shows up in the relative performances.

So the predictions have their values but there will always be another couple of factors involved that mean some of the times seem easier to you than others if that makes sense.:D

Phew! I didn't stop either till I got to 11 miles and then just had to walk for a bit as my hips were killing me! Walked for about 10 mins and then slowly jogged the rest of the way home. Legs are going to be soooooo stiff tomorrow!

Good morning peeps! My legs aren't too bad at all this morning! I think sitting in the steam sauna has helped me alot :) :T
Good wine needs to breathe, if it stops breathing try mouth to mouth.
