This was a bit of a funny one in that the race felt a good bit better than the time suggests.
So the sub 38 mins wasnt achieved but on reflection it was probably worth that sort of time due to time lost in the first mile due to congestion caused by the twisty nature of the initial stages and there was indeed the rumoured 'sting in the tale' with around 30 secs lost due to the series of short climbs over the closing stages.
All in all, not too disappointed as it is still the fastest 10K so far which has got to be some sort of positive and it did feel pretty good.:D
The 2009 10Ks have gone:

7 Days To Marathon Day
Becky is currently tucked up under the duvet due to feeling a little unwell after eating something disagreeable over the last couple of days. So today's run aborted in favour of pampering (maybe..).Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Get well soon becks
Ello everyone else.

Afternoon all
Well done on your race and time Rich. I'm impressed as always :T:T
Gingerscott and Catspaw, maybe I should have gotten you both to join me and convert my 20 mile into a relay :rotfl::rotfl:.
I'm sat here having arrived home 5 mins ago. My legs are aching and my lower back is wondering whether to join in . All I really want to do is lie down and not get up for hours, but I daren't put my dirty, stinky body on anything except the exercise mat after this post.
The run was good. I headed over to Crystal Palace and managed a few gradients. Got a little carried away with those  then realised I still had 12 miles to run so went back to the flats and slowly meandered my way across South London and back to Balham. Despite the jelly beans, goo and water my legs tried to give in so I had to slow right down at times. My knees weren't too happy with those gradients either, so I'll have to do them again next week :rotfl:
I managed to do it in 3:13:09, with an average pace of 9.39 instead of the planned 3:12:20, ave pace of 9.37. I'm not complaining but I do wonder how much pain I'll be in after the actual marathon given that its mostly trail with a few roads :eek:.
Off to stretch then use far too much water for my shower, eat, cook and grab a little shuteye.
See you all later.
PS: Becky, stop lazing around and get out there. Feeling poorly indeed. These youngsters - no stamina:D Wish you better :A

2 weeks till the half marathon, knocked out about 5miles this morning, really not into it, wife had a go at me before i was about to set off, so had that rolling around my head, slept on the sofa last night again. First pain in right lower knee i stopped at the 5 mile mark of a planned 13-14miles.
Not very good, going out again on tuesday. Lets hope things are better or ill have a very bad half marathon.0 -
Now that the official results have been published I'm more happy with this morning's effort as it seems to confirm that around a minute was lost due to, as the men's winner termed it, the 'toughness of the course'.
A few stats:
Runners 7,500 (approx)
Confirmed Chip Time 38:53
Overall Finishing Position 85th/7500 (approx)
Age Group Position 11th/665
So not too shabby...:D:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

wow well done Rich great running are you feeling OK for next weekend?, unfortunately I can't do many races at the mo that's why I'm not doing a 1/2 before my full marathon. Hubbies job is safe for another 6 months but we're still scraping together every penny we can. I'd really like to do some more runs but I haven't found a free event near me yet, the nearest parkrun is Manchester which is a way to go for a 5 km!0

Alias_O, you do whatever you have to get back into her good books! Sorry to hear you didn't do as well as you'd planned but aim for Tuesday and rest up til then :T
Rich, you only lost a minute? You were sleeping mate :rotfl:The 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -
Poorbabe - That wasnt much of a kip to recover from a 20 miler, UK has a 12 hour appt with the duvet after his!:p
What a great run though - how did you get so close to your plan? Are you a robot or something?;) And you'll be fine on marathon day with the training you're doing coupled with the taper etc.....:D:D
Evab -It cant be too long before a parkrun appears near you, they're expanding at a fair rate of knots now. In fact, parkruns are now the biggest participation running event in the UK...having just eclipsed the BUPA series!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Rich, I really seriously thought about that kip then realised dinner wasn't ready, flat hadn't been cleaned, haven't read the meters (gas and leccy) and so on :cool::rolleyes: AND I really really want a bottle of Lucozade so I'm off to the shops.
Re the run: I dunno. I do know that using my Garmin helps to keep me on track in a way running without it doesn't. It spurs me to keep the 'assistant' either on a level or behind me! I still start off too fast but I'm better than I was last year, so what I must try to remember is 'very slow start' for runs of 18+ miles.
Evab, just popped into your blog -:j:T
That kip will have to wait til normal sleep time :rotfl:The 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420
