OMG - can you imagine the carnage

Anyway the olympic course cant run through the centre of London if its a three lap course and is going to end in the Stadium...

The Olympic Games may well be the Greatest Show on Earth - but it looks as though we'll all just be watching from the sidelines.

Erm, is this not the general idea of the Olympics (unless you're an Olympian of course)?

Christ, they'll be complaining that we all have to watch the World Cup Final instead of being able to take part next!:p:p

I know its ridiculous - now if you want to use the games as a way to springboard people into getting fit then you can do fun run events in the weeks after - but you dont have to run it alongside - its the pinnacle of the sport - imagine training your whole life for that one moment only to find it was ruined by some non elite runner cluttering up the course!! Its madness I tell you!

It could because the 3 laps dont need to go back to the stadium each time. They might be something like 3 x 6mile laps plus 4 miles from the stadium and 4 miles back to the stadium...or something like that. Maybe?

But Straford is 6 miles from central London (as the crow flies) and the stadium is a bit further on again...I dont think that would be possible to be honest!
  • Good morning runners - some great progress being made on here!

I'm being indecisive about whether to do the race on Sunday. I have been being really cautious to let my achilles recover and it seems to be fine - no pain anywhere - but because I've been taking it so easy I'm not sure I'm really up to 10k. Not done more than 3 miles for about a month. Also a bit wary about doing any damage again by suddenly adding lots of distance. And I've had an incredibly tiring week and struggled to walk home last night never mind run!! So.. probably not. But maybe. I don't know! Indecisive, moi?

Well done on your 12 miles Linda and in 10:49 mins/mile = very impressive indeed considering your 10k was at 13:13 mins/mile - just shows what regular training can achieve in a short space of time :D:D

Great improvement - hope you got some sleep in the end!

I know, I was in heaven running in the dark, the wind and the stair rod rain.
    (am I mad???)

Not too achey today either, I find that wearing my fitflops after a run helps with that.

I didn't even set out to do 12 miles last night, I was going for my usual 8 but you know those days when you feel like you could just carry on for ages so I just had to go with it!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Red - its difficult - but I probably wouldnt do it because speed and distance together on not very much training can easily add up to an injury - I guess it depends how much you have invested in this particular race - are there any other suitable 10ks coming up that you could do instead (and of course there's the losing the fee too!)?

Yeah I am a bit fed up at having paid £22 to then not do it.. but it was paid a couple of months ago so it's gone anyway. It's also annoying because it's in my home town so I won't really be able to avoid it. But better to be down on £22 and a bit grumpy for the day than injure myself again I guess.

Good idea to look for some other 10ks.. I might just go and do that now :)
