Hey E.C. sounds like the improvement from your race is coming through :D

Well done on a great run! Watch those hamstrings tomorrow though - try to take the first mile or so as slow as you can bear and let them get nice and warmed up...

On the stitch - sorry I get them too, they suck but sice what causes them isnt really known you have to live with it sadly...for me drinking too much water makes it worse so I try not to take it out on short runs now but your could just be when you are pushing the pace??

x posted with Uk - mine have never gone away - rarrrrrr!!!

  • I make sure I don’t eat at least 2 hours before I run but now I come to think of it before last night I have been running in the mornings early and I don’t seam to get any stitches so I think it was maybe the evening running maybe to much water as I drink more than 2 liters of water throughout the day!!

But I have to stick with and get used to them!!

Looking forward now to the next 10k race on 6/9 and I hope to improve on my time!!

I think the hamstrings have come from the hills on the last 10k but I have been stretching them out and Becky I will try to take it a bit slower at the start tomorrow but no promises!!

    Hi,
Just wanted to ask a quick question if that's ok?

I am single have four children 7,6,6 and 1 none of them can ride a bike so can't ride beside me. How does someone with children get running?

Family help out? (i don't have a partner)
    treadmill?

Would love to but seems so hard!

Missal can you take the little one in the buggy and push it and then get the others to come out with you - kids about 7 run the wimbledon 5k parkrun (albeit slowly!), you'd have to accept you wont get as much done as you want - but it would be great to start off that way as you dont want to be going out all guns blazing anyway when you're starting out...

Dont have kids so its a just a thought...

    Hi Missal,

Realistically, you'll need help. Family, neighbours, whoever you can call on. It would be really difficult to push one, and have the others run along. You'll spend too long making sure they are ok to be able to concentrate on your run. As an alternative, why not take them all to the park and do some relay races or something like that. You'll be able to stay close to them all, have some family fun time and get some exercise at the same time. If you really want to get into running seriously, it will take help.

When my son was small I had to take every opportunity I could. I would run when he was at cubs, at parties, anywhere. In fact I still run when he is at football training even though he is nearly 14 and can look after himself. I appreciate it will be much more difficult with four of them, and a baby too.

    Good luck!

EC - As far as stitches are concerned you need to be far more cautious than leaving 2 hours between eating and running. Ideally, 9 or 10 hours would be far better if you want to enjoy the running, but certainly 5 hours plus. If you have any level of digestion going on while trying to run it is asking for complaints around that region.

So lunch at noon, run at 7pm is reasonable or run before breakfast. Try it and see if the stitches become a thing of the past.:D

Hi Missal, I have 2 kids, nearly 4yrs old & 1yr, I started running 6 weeks ago when my eldest was at school before the holidays and took my 1yr old in the buggy. Since the hols have started I have had to rope in family to watch them whilst I run. Once school starts again I will go back to running with the buggy.

I agree. I've never had problems with stitches during my morning runs (before breakfast). The only times I've had problems have been when I've eaten about 4 or less hours before heading out. Obviously it will depend on what & how much you eat. The shorter the timespane after eating, the more severe and likely they are.

Not much to report from me. Keeping it going and making good progress on getting the wife ready for 5K. I don't think she'll be ready to run the full 5K, but I hope she'll be as well prepared as she can be!

When the bys are at school, great just need to get my dd looked after.

A littlewhile ago i started a training regime and took my daughter in her push chair, i spent half the time tripping and trying to balance the pushchair as it kept doing wheelies!

I ended up really straining my ankle and not being able to run for about 2 weeks! think i'll just wait til after the hols for this one!!

    Thanks to everyone that replied!
