InaPickle - you'll surprise yourself with what you can run once you build up to it. I didn't run at all before February, and was not a runner in my youth either.
Simply - brilliant distance yesterday. This marathon lark is easy eh?!Thought I admit to being like UK after my longer long runs (nice Cadburys pic UK) once I've cooled down.
1Hannah - nice progress and welcome.
poorbabe - I know exactly what you mean on start/stop crossing roads later in runs. It's far worse than the same start/stop earlier in a run. Thankfully Saturday's early run near my parents had even less traffic than round here. More old peeps out for papers really early though!
evab - nice running last week. That mileage is climbing (sorry!) well!
And those worrying about races - rich is so right - start slowly and ignore those shooting past you. You will catch many of them up later as they struggle and need to walk! Been there and experienced it (with massive effort to be slower at the start).
So now I've caught up, running... Did a 10K at lunchtime in 1:01:26 (9:54/mile). Not fantastic but I'm not too upset. There was just nothing in the legs but I put in two good runs Thurs/Sat last week, and a generally decent fortnight of pace improvements and ease with which 10 miles was reached on the weekends. I did try and push it a but, but then thought I'll just listen to my body and took it easy. As a consequence I enjoyed it a whole lot more
Total for the week = 6.2 miles.0 -
Evening everyone - am feeling v cheesed off - have been away for a week - but due to an altercation with what we think was a horsefly, had an allergic reaction - cue massive leg swelling, and an array of blisters - one of which was so large it had memebers of the A&E department all coming in to my particular cubicle and collectively going 'Oooooh!', have barely moved since coming home.
Was planning a test walk on Wednesday with a view to getting back into my stride by the end of the week - hmmmm. A three minute walk from one office to another today has disabused me of that foolish notion.
I have got used to running 3 miles every other day - I like it, and want to get back on with it!

Yuk! That sounds gross Rupe, not to mention very painful. I hope it sorts itself out soon so that you can get back on with your regular runs.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

Good morning!!!
Had an interesting session this morning:
07/07 - 800m Avg 4:13 fastest 4:07
14/07 - 400m Avg 1:54 fastest 1:47
21/07 - 200m Avg 56 fastest 53
28/07 - 1m - Avg 8:03 fastest 8:00
04/08 - 800m Avg 3:55 fastest 3:51
11/08 - 400m Avg 1:48 fastest 1:44
18/08 - 200m Avg 51 fastest 49
However, it took me a few to warm up this morning so the first was 57 and the second 54 so if you took those two off the avg would be 50 secs...it may well be coming to that time where I am going to have to add in a longer warm up (great as if this session doesnt take enough time already)
Will have a think about that later...but feeling good anyway as it was slighlty better than Rich predicted:p
Rupe - I had one a few weeks back on my shin - luckily it only swelled slightly (I'm not allergic to them thankfully!), but it was soooo ithcy - poor you!0 -
Still never got out as I cut the lawn last night and it was lashing out of the heavens this morning so didnt get out this morning either!!
Feeling really unfit now as I havent been out since last week so if it is still raining here this evening I am going to go on the treadmill instead!!
Hoping to do now more than 4.5 miles stick to the plan for a while so I will get up to half marathon distance!!0 -

Just wanted to say Krider this shows a great attitude that will definitely help you improve - sometimes you have to accept the rubbish runs and move on
Hope the week gets better running wise!0 -
E.C. do what you have to to get the miles in even if it means treadmill - bet you will find it boring though0

07/07 - 800m Avg 4:13 fastest 4:07 8:26/mile 8:46/mile
14/07 - 400m Avg 1:54 fastest 1:47 7:36/mile 8:26/mile
21/07 - 200m Avg 56 fastest 53 7:28/mile 8:28/mile
28/07 - 1m - Avg 8:03 fastest 8:00 8:03/mile 8:03/mile
04/08 - 800m Avg 3:55 fastest 3:51 7:50/mile 8:10/mile
11/08 - 400m Avg 1:48 fastest 1:44 7:12/mile 7:52/mile
18/08 - 200m Avg 51 fastest 49 6:48/mile 7:48/mile
Not too shabby!
That is exactly what happens when intervals get faster...you need longer warm ups to get the muscle elasticity to a sufficient level. Remember when that happened to me last winter?
And bear in mind how much better you feel doing the 5K warm ups before each 5K race than doing less - you're moving faster in the intervals sessions than in a 5K race so its logical to need as much warm up!
So a 40sec/mile improvement since you last did these 4 weeks ago - good innit!:D:D
