A t-shirt with a diamond encrusted logo I would hope!
Yep, you've got that about right - it will be during the taper for fleetwood so really I would like to run 2 back to back 19 min 5ks and duck under 38 mins.....these last few 5ks around 19 mins have been run on heavy legs so that sort of time should be within reach.
Plus there's £25 worth of value to get out of the race so it needs to be good!:p:pGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

I was taking 1:50 - 1:55 to do 10k walks at this time last year so its a good base to start from.:DThat's a really good pace for walking that distance. Sorry your ped wasn't accurate. I have a Fitbug and I must not have calibrated my stride length accurately because it never measures as far as I have really gone.
At least you had a really good walk, lots of fresh air and I'm sure you'll sleep well tonight.
Wow, thanks guys! :T I thought that was really, really slow so you guys saying the opposite has made me feel much, much better.
And it's nice to see that marathon runners have actually started at about the same place as me, as that's what I eventually want to do. I'm really quite unfit, so I thought that everyone would be miles fitter than me to start with and that I would have to do loads of training to get up to everyone else's starting point. Perhaps I'm not quite so bad after all...
And Chickadee...I think I may feel a schoolgirl error creeping up on me.
I think I ought to have recalibrated the stride distance after replacing the batteries. Oops! Just as well I didn't throw the pedo in the bin as I felt like when I discovered the real distance I had walked...
Thanks again, guys. I think I'll repeat the adventure on Monday. :A

IAP, if you want to see where I was this time last year, and a lot of others on here, then feel free to take a look at the original thread:

From beginning of Sept roughly is when I started walking at about 4 stone overweight......hoping to get close to a 3hr marathon in 4 weeks time BUT the most important element is PATIENCE. I deliberately did a 10 week programme concentrated on walking to get everything strengthened up first....I would strongly recommend that you do the same!:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Hi IAP, Don't kid youself that we all started out as great athletes!
When I started running I was a real couch potato. I have a desk job and believe me, I didn't move around much back then. I was rubbish at sports at school and when I started running I could barely get a few hundred yards before gasping for breath. I persevered and now I have run loads of races, long and short. OK, I'll never break any records, but that isn't what its about. Enjoy yourself and stick with it and you WILL reap the rewards.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

Wowee! You guys sound like my kind of athletes (literally!
) And RichOneDay, you sound physically EXACTLY where I'm starting from: it's nice to know that someone else in about my position has done it, so it's theoretically possible for me to do it too! :T As for the walking program you mention, what did you do?
Chickadee, are you sure we weren't the same schoolkid?!
My eventual aim is to run a marathon. I've applied for the London Marathon next year as both an individual runner and for golden bonds with charities, but I know the chances of getting a place are fairly slim. (I really want to do it for charity one way or another, so I'm maximising my chances of getting a place by entering either way). If I don't get a place in the London Marathon, I'll consider applying elsewhere, but I'll need to be considerably fitter than I am, either way. I know that it will be a hell of a distance to go, so I need to be careful about training properly. I read somewhere that it's good to enter a 5K race, then a 10K etc to give oneself something to aim for along the way, so that's why I'm thinking of doing a 5K race. Any tips you (or anyone else) may have are gratefully received, so feel free.
And good luck to you guys with your running aims as well. I'm sure the BUPA race can only get better from this point in now, RichOneDay: if you've sold your soul you can't feel emotions and therefore guilt!

Just read the thread IAP, nothing complicated...just walk. One foot in front of the other for at least 200 miles in chunks of 4-10 miles! I did about 500 miles before getting the running going because to do otherwise puts too much strain on unstrengthened muscles/tendons/ligaments etc.
I had run 12 marathons previously with a pb of 2:48 (but years ago) but that doesnt protect you from the damage that going straight into running will cause without the strengthening work beforehand. So dont rush into running, its the sure way to injury.......Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Thanks! Am looking through the thread as we speak. *Flicks through pages skim reading as quickly as possible* And your PB is pretty impressive: I would be happy just to make it round!

Morning all,
am trying to get a list of entered races together to add to your list as well as times ( I seem to write them down on various bits of paper and file them in different places!)
am coming back from injury so my races for August and Sept have been cancelled.
Currently up to 6 miles with hills ( really frustrating though this is the first time I have ever been injured in 10years)!
Anybody got any advice for a limping runner?Proud to be dealing with my debt:eek:
TOTAL: £6,437 (04/01/2013) slowly but surely it is decreasing:D0 -
