The nearest Park run to me is probably Glasgow in distance but its just as quick to get down to Manchester. Either way its a 2.5 hour drive to run 5k hence i dont do them very often. Heck we dont really have many local 5k's either :(

All 3 5k's i've done were park runs, 1 cos i was in London supporting a mate at FLM, one i stopped off at on the way to devon for a brief visit to the parents (well ok i had a half down there ;)) and the third was a month or so back when i was doing something for a mate.

Well that goes against the usual thinking doesn't it? Non-runners seem all too ready to predict that runners will suffer from bad knees in later life, which annoys me, as even if it were true (which is now open to debate) we are less likely to suffer from obesity-related illness, heart disease, etc., etc....

Simplycynical your training is amazing:D-mine seems really poor in comparrison, esp as running marathon on same day:eek: How do you all come up with training plans? I have a book that I am following for marathon but not sure where to go after that?
    Interval training today ( I hate intervals!!!) not bad times though. 1min intervals with 1min rest (6.46, 6.51, 6.45, 6.24, 6.31, 6.36, 6.39, 6.45, 6.11, 6.36).
    How did 10k go EC?

It has been known for a long time that regular running protects knees as oppose to damaging them so its nice to see more confirmation.

The people who really damage themselves, though, are the 'fair weather' runners, the binge runners, the '3 months a year while I prepare for London' runners etc.

In other words, the load on the knees has to be relatively consistent week in, week out with all progression being gradual...and then a healthy set of knees should be maintained for decades.:D:D

Good luck tonight EC....I'm predicting 53 minutes.
