    It's tiring!

40 hours overtime so far for July

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Oh, which PC world did you get it from? Was it recently? Cool isn't it for that money!

Tottenham... Nothing like the posh end of town... but on the upside not many Middle-class runners to go looking for the Garmin bargin.. was in a battered box mind but everything was in one peice and still sealed :D... and for the price you can not complain.

RAn again this evening, left a bit too late, which meant I was hungry 'cos didn't have tim to eat before I left. Slow and tiring - bit depressing really. 3rd day in a row, but only 3.7 miles, guess I haven't been doing this long so need to be patient. Rest day tomorrow me thinks, then try the Parkrun on Saturday, I am brighter in the mornings so hopefully it won't be too hard.

Dont worry B.J we'll be there cheering you on :D

The hard runs - thats just your body catching up with itself - I'm having those at the moment while mine re-adapts to pace - a few weeks and it'll get better again :D

    Depressing? Why?

The body will get tired on a regular basis. Thats good news - it means enough work has been done that the body requires some rest to bed it all down.

Of course 'rest' is a relative term - it may mean complete rest or it may mean taking runs more easily. But your body will certainly give hints that it needs a breather on a regular basis

  • Got out this morning and did my usual 6.65 miler in 59.28 mins!!

I checked the distance in the car the other day and tried to place mile markers. I also got the marker for the 10k so I could see roughly what my time was and this morning I hit the marker at 57.30 approx!!

I want to get sub 55 mins in my 10k races thats my goal for now.

The other thing I want to ask is, I enjoy the morning runs now more so than the evening runs although my time this morning was ok it took my 3 miles to get going and after that I felt very low on energy. I do not take anything to eat before I go just a mouthful of water. Does anyone have any tips as to what to do or what they would normally do? I have a mate who takes a bowl of porridge 45 mins before he goes on his early long run!!

    Another good run, EC!

55 minutes for 10K should be well within your grasp if you're doing 57:30 in training. I certainly wouldnt want to be doing a training run any closer than within 2:30 of race pace - save your big effort for race day.

As with anything its a matter of getting used to it. Morning runs, or any runs really, should take 2-3 miles to get going...so theres nothing unusual there.

Its absolutely fine to just get up and get out of the door for any morning runs up to 16 miles. I'd usually want to have breakfast and wait 4-5 hours for doing longer runs, but even then there is a strong argument for getting out without eating first to develop the glycogen sparing element of training to the optimum.

Eating 45mins before a run is not to be recommended under any circumstances and is certainly not beneficial.

Thanks Rich, that's a positive way of looking at a tiring run, it's the first time it's felt that hard for me. Whatever time I do it in, looking forward to tomorrow, after all, I couldn't walk up the office stairs a year ago, and I've plenty of colleagues who still can't!
