You look after those stiff muscles - they will soon sort themselves out.

You should be fine for a gentle jaunt around Battersea - its just speed and hills that should be avoided if you're nursing post-speedwork soreness.

    Isnt lactic acid great?

You're being a bit tough on yourself regarding hills - you're judging against people who run on demanding hills every day of the week. But, yes, introducing some into your schedule now will help your progress further.:D

I realise that 'hills' around here is a relative term but I do find them hard work and frankly two rest days a week is a bit of a luxury so am happy to do a short hill run - up and down the hill is 0.77 miles so 6 times is 4.62 with a run there and back to my house should make it about 6 miles so thats nothing too painful!

The elevation isnt huge but once I've got the hang of that one I'll progress to a bigger one in Hyde Park I think :D

I live on a hill, GF lives on a hill we live in hilly country , therefore all my runs include hills :rotfl:. Oh if only i could run on the flat occasionally :D.

Just thought I'd share this post, nicked from another forum:

"..Just be careful how you train. Pushing too much speedwork = injuries. I was doing 5k in 20mins and adopted the minset that all my training had to be fast and hard. Within 2months my pb (5k) was down to 17:55 but picked up so many injurys including plantar facillites that it wasnt worth it. It took 5months to start running again and im only 30. Training hard is a must but slow sessions and recovery runs are just as vital.."

This nicely summarises why intervals/speedwork should be taken cautiously and even then only when a suitable amount of sustained groundwork has been put in first to prepare the body for what is a very high risk activity!

Hi all nice runs going on, I've been slacking as we're a bit down at the mo due to dh being faced with redundany in the next few weeks. Haven't wanted to do anything let alone run although it might help my frustrations, off out to TA social night tonight to try and cheer ourselves up then will go for a run tomorrow morning then that will be it until Monday as dh is away from Fri - Sun night with TA.

Sorry for bringing you down especially when there are endorphins a plenty flying about! :-)

A challenging little run this morning. I think that was the strongest wind I've run in so far and at some points it literally stopped me in my tracks - remind me again why I choose to live on the coast????

I'm not sure how or why I managed that pace this morning - I can only think that my subconscious was aware that I needed to get back in time for work.

Becky - come and visit me if you want some hills; I can't seem to avoid them. :D

Hello and welcome uzubairu :hello: It looks like your another peep who enjoys a challenge!!

Hi evab - sorry to see things aren't going so well at the moment - I hope you have a good night tonight.

Hey uzubairu - dedication reading the whole thread! And good luck in your 10k training.

    Nice consistency bj.

Idio, I take the point about having mind time away from work, but like mascott I wouldn't relax in the same way just sat on a park bench. I have no idea why thinking stuff through why running is different for me - but it is!

evab - best wishes on the redundancy situation. Not good :(

Simply - pushing distances at lunchtime for a while gave me lots of variety but now I'm aiming at 14-18 midweek miles I tend to end up with similar routes. I do repeat them each week/fortnight but like to mix things up a bit just to prevent boredom!

That said I did the same route again this lunchtime. Nice and steady after an evening out where I ate more and later than normal so didn't want to overdo things. 6 miles in 1:00:29 (10:03 pace). So now I have I think my highest total of miles in consecutive days running (Mon/Tue/Wed) of 18 miles! :)

Total this week = 18 miles.

I did my 5 mile run last night in the pouring rain.... and LOVED it!
At first I was dodging the puddles but ended up aiming for them.
I was soaking wet, it was so refreshing,
people in cars were driving past and looking at me like I was totally mad.

I beat my previous time and did it in exactly 1 hour (there are some long hills that make it hard going!)
When I got back home I felt like I could have just carried on like Forrest Gump!
I'll definitely be running in the rain again.

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.
