Some good interval running becky - and I know what you mean about the lights being frustrating. Some other good mileage going on rich, E.C., and anyone I've just forgotten
(this thread moves fast some days!).
Better run today - 6 miles in 58:24 (9:43 pace). Did the same route as yesterday out of mental laziness so as not having to plan out a different route! But it was a useful comparison. And an amazing difference in just one day, though I am tired now. Lovely cooling rain showers too
Total for the week = 12 miles.0 -
Reminds me of another game I used to play - the bedroom olympics
(NB: that's actually the name of a game, not just what I called "alone time" as a youngster)

Left ankle twanging very slightly today - doesn't hurt, but very strange feeling!
Its difficult to stay stressed if you run regularly over a long period - you would have to fight the 'feel good' chemicals if you were determined to stay stressed.
As for relaxation in races that just comes with the experience of doing regular races. As runners are lining up before a race the front end is characterised by an air of calm composure - if a nerve appeared it would feel very lonely.
However, further back in the field and in the mass races there is an atmosphere of nervous tension bordering on impending terror. Theres a lot of nervous chatter going on which feeds the atmosphere.
Im pretty sure it just comes down to levels of preparedness - if you feel well prepared for an event there is unlikely to be much tension.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Have to agree with that - but then I am pretty relaxed anyway - was practically comatose before the marathon becuase being nervous also wastes glycogen so you need to save every little bit you can for the race0

Do we know what it is that determines *how* good these chemicals make you feel?
Seems unfair that some people finish a run, glow a little, have a big grin on their face for the rest of the day. I finish, get showered, then feel exactly the same as I did before.
Is there anything I can do to get the best out of my endorphins?0 -
