I ran along the beach to begin with so nice and flat but then my third mile was across the golf course and along the road, nevermind willsort myself next time.0

This running lark is one big learning curve isn't it evab? It all looks so easy when you read about it but it's a bit different when you're out there on your own.
You wouldn't think that it could be so difficult putting one foot in front of the other would you???
That's why I like this thread so much - the sharing of good and not so good runs and lots of advice from the more experienced amongst us.2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -
Thanks to all for the input concerning running and diet. I'm very new to running in general (been slowly training up for 1 year, running my first 10K next week) so i'm noticing changes in myself (such as increased appetite) that I'm not used to. It's good to hear my body is responding in the correct way though. After intially starting to run to lose weight, I'm now happy to say that I'm all about the running itself and any weight loss will just be a bonus. That said, I'm really looking forward to developing the "runners body" someone mentioned earlier0

Glad everyone's feeling positive today despite setbacks
Miss_Cupcake - me first please for runners body - how much would I love to look like Paula!!! Think thats a lifetime of training though sadly
Also during my run I was having the thought that I'll always have quick chunky legs since I have lots of muscle on the underside - they are getting bigger now because muscle is forming on the top - might end up looking like the williams sisters0 -
Becky - I hear you about the chunky legs! Whilst I've lost weight since starting to run, my legs have actually gotten a lot thicker! It's not exactly very lady like/dainty, but then if I wanted to be that I'd sit at home all day counting calories and eating carrot sticks (NEVER gonna happen!)0

Just to add to the diet/weight chat...
I lost my weight via diet and exercise (not running, not even on a treadmill), and it was after that that I decided to give running a try. Now look at me... :rotfl: Anyway, since then I am a few pounds heavier than my lowest maintained weight which was maintained mostly via diet with a small amount of exercise), but I reckon my waist and hips are narrower now than they were then. Benefit of muscle mass and all that stuff. Still wouldn't say I have a runners body but I'm generally happy with its toned state as I also do core exercises and some arm stuff once a week too.
Mind I empathise on the Williams sisters legs issue...0 -

hi all
i am pleased with my progress. as you might remember i have been injured and decided to take two weeks off. it has taken until yesterday to be pain free, although it has been a gradual improvement. (its my right knee btw!)
one thing i noticed at its worst was that when stepping forward on my good leg i could land on the ball of my foot and hold it. with the dodgy knee when i landed it would collapse down. i think it might be an over stretched tendon..
anyway. feeling good now. the knee feels stronger, so its just a case of deciding when to go out. i can either do a commuting on fri/sat/sun or go out leisurely on mon.
thinking of giving it another few days....
most importantly....god i miss it!
it is so addictive.
good luck to all of you for your weekend runs. :TSealed Pot Challenge 2013: No 1898

Mascott - good to hear it is improving. I think you're right in suggesting a damaged tendon. It will probably still niggle you for a while and get a little worse after each run and then start to recover again between runs. Try to monitor it week to week, as long as there is week on week improvement dont worry about the odd twinge or soreness along the way.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
