Thanks Krider, I haven't got around to looking at the software again today, run, work, sorting kids stuff.
Did the 3.6 mile circuit again, and knocked another 1.5 minutes off - honestly without trying. My focus was on slow, but keep going. hey!!! so happy!!! Mind you, I'm still on about 40 minutes for 3.6 miles, so compared to you guys!!! I have to keep remembering that 18 months ago I was 43 and 17 stone, now I'm under 11 stone and at least I'm working on the running. I really do think I can crack this. I've found something I love and want to get good at! Oh, and not an ache - not one, so I know there's margin.
Glad I've been doing all the weights and resistance work now, I'm sure that's given me the strength, if not the aerobic capacity.
Thanks for all the support guys.0 -
Hi guys
Was wondering if I could join you on this thread.
Ive just in my wise wisdom signed up for the Dublin 10k next April - having not run since school.
My brother and other relations are doing it, and I would be there anyway so thought why not
Now the problem is i am very unfit and actually dreading it so I am going to read through the thread and hopefully you can throw some tips at me. I know ive got to start slow and do have quite a while to train. The training will start in earnest next week when my baby sitter is back off holiday - see excuses already!:rotfl:
now im going to read page 1

Bekkki1 welcome to the board, your more than welcome here.
Your doing the right thing by starting slow, walking will be what the better runners on here will recommend first, but they will be along soon to offer more advice.
Do you have any goals in mind or just want to get round?

Richhhhhh thats a terrible photo of me - waaaaa *makes grumpy wrinkle up nose face*
Anyway on other matters:
interval session 12 x 400m average 1:54 fastest 1:47
Ouch that was tough today - the race was really in the legs and I had a temperature when I woke up - seem to have killed it now though
Right off to make some coffee!
Well done on the running Krider and hope the shoes work out Simply!
Beckk1 - ahhh what a good name, dont worry you've loads of time to get fit before April and you've come to the right place - let me sit for 20 mins after my session and get my brain in gear I'll do some advice

Hi all, no run for me yesterday as I had pain in my chest from Sunday right through yesterday as well, I thought it was indigestion which I never get but it didn't clear thought my chest was going to explode! Anyway I had an early night and is better today, very wierd and will keep an eye on it. Yesterday should have been speed work but don't want to attempt today so will do 3/4 miles then speed work tomorrow if all is well still.
Nice pics Beck and jj, I look terrible when I run.0 -
Hull 24 hour
This will be a relativly brief race report being there is only so much you can say about a trackOvernight stop in S!!!!horpe was in the ideal location. KFC, McD's, Pizza hut, frankie and bennies plus a massive tesco's all next door (well the tesco's was the other side the main road but still less than 5 mins walk away). I declined all of these places as i had my pasta with me so had them whilst playing games on the laptop. Watched torchwood and then went to bed actually getting to sleep around 2am as i couldn't get to sleep.
Up at 7am with breakfast at the door which was swiftly eaten followed by a shower and then sorting things out. Nipped over to tesco's for some sarnies and drinks before heading over to Hull. Got to the stadium, got my number then went to attach it at which point Mrs Mac came over, fetch shirts being easy to spot. Met Mr Mac too and moved my food and stuff into a corner of their tent.
Race was off on time and it was already rather hot even at 10am. Now knowing i had woken up with cramp thursday morning in my lower right calf and it was still painful at times i was taking it easy. Plenty of hours to go and not going to fast would also combat the sun to a certain extent. Shame the calf wasn't playing along. Did seem a little better after a hour but i could still tell it was there.
Shoe change at about 3 hours in due to my left heel hurting which was odd being that pair is 2/3 weeks old and had not given me any bother at all yet on several 2-2.5 hour long runs. Whether its the track or whether they aren't going to be suitable for marathon lengths i'll find out soon enough. as the calf was still being a pain i stopped for a massage around 3:45 hours in which sorted that out. Pity the left leg misbehaved from then on.
Now when its hot i have a habit of struggling to eat which isn't the best of things in a race like this. Still Jaffa's were going down ok and interestingly so were the sarnies i'd bought earlier. One to use more in the future i think. Potato scones however dont work unless eaten whilst drinking.
I think it was about 6 hours or so in when my left hip was bothering me enough to stop for a massage. Well erm there was, and probably still is, a big knot in the side of my leg. Massage got it sorted for a while anyway although after a few laps i did have to grab the vaseline and head to the changing room for some lubing up of ones bottom. That worked too.
Unfortunatly after a hour or so my left groin was tight and on stopping for a 3rd massage of the race it was discovered it was tight as hell. Tight enough to pretend to be as tight as a tendon in fact. Stretching and massage got that one sorted although i suspect its something that could do with getting looked at as there is probably a something i can do to help there by building up some muscles or something.
Off again once more with the freedom of being able to move pain free. Or at least for another hour or so. Around 7 i asked for my dinner (Chicken Tikka masala) and then did a few more laps before it was ready where i stopped for a massage again as my hip was bad once more. Massage/stretching on it whilst waiting for dinner to cool enough to eat followed by eating dinner.
Carried on for a few more hours before stopping to stick on my fleece as it was getting chilly and i was mostly walking as the leg was still bothereing me. A little before 11pm i stopped to stick on my tracky bottoms and for a wee break but during the break it erm started to !!!! down. This it carried on doing for ages and ages so i erm stayed put inside the tent bar the odd toilet visit. Around 3am and with the wind blowing a lot more (i'd been dozing in a deckchair and had been awoken via the porch roof pole flexing in via the wind and bonking me on the head) i headed off to the car for some sleep.
Not the most comfortable but at least i was able to get into the sleeping bag and doze off for 3/4 hours. Although a C3 isn't wide enough to stretch my legs out and i was !!!!!!ed if i was going out in the rain to drop the back seat so the entire back is flat. Might do that on arriving at these sort of races in future though as it would be a convientant bed.
Woke up at 7 and thought i'l lie here for a little then get up and walk on as up until it started raining i was intending to spend the next 2.5-3 hours walking my way to a double marathon. Shame i fell asleep again and awoke at 8:30. Got up moved around a bit and a few aches and pains were evident so i officially whithdrew whilst seeing how far i'd gone. Managed 175 laps in just under 13 hours which is 43.5 miles approx.
The sun was out again by now and it was bloody hot, hot enough to easily show me where i'd erm gotten sunburnt. Neck and face as per usual although i did notice later on the bottoms of my legs too were somewhat sore. I guess the track reflects the sun upwards a bit then.
Once the race finished i assisted some of the runners marking there end points being i was more able at bending down to chalk the track. Then it was packing the tent and stuff away which was erm interesting in the wind. Presentation was done once the runners were ready then i nipped in for a shower before heading off to Doncaster.
As i was earlier than i needed to be at the travelodge i went to Burger King at the services before heading into Doncaster to go and watch Bruno which i had planned to do anyway. Bruno watched then back to the service area to get into my room. Unpacked laptop stuck the telly on and watched the end of the golf then the athletics then top gear and most of Ben Fogle before i fell asleep. Did manage to eat one whole packet of peanuts and a bar of galazy during the evening there. Couldn't be bothered to head over to the Burger King again downstairs plus it would of meant sticking some clothes on and i couldn't be bothered with that either.
Decent nights sleep followed by a bit of telly in the morning before a nice simple drive home bar a accident near Wetherby. Home to a cat running round like a loony, pleased to see me again i think. Lunch stuck in oven then off to work where i have just finished writing this little lot up.Debt free Nerd number 1122 LBM Jan 2009 Debt @ LBM £40,086.88 (14/01/09)
