I think you would find it virtually impossible to police.

The key is to avoid 'races' where this kind of thing is likely to happen. You're usually paying twice as much for the pleasure of being crowded anyway. I know the Corporate Challenge is a different scenario because it was a works entry but it is becoming more of a problem generally.

As Becky will confirm, yesterday's race was far more pleasant because everyone was there to do their best, whatever that may be, and totally considerate of others and their aims - you get no hassle when that is the case.

Yes, you're right. I guess you should just write off the corporate challenge as far as pace is concerned! That's one of the things I like about the parkrun, it is for runners! All abilities, but still it is a runners event, not too crowded and people follow running etiquette with regards to moving out of the way for faster runners etc.

Yesterdays race was lovely actually - I was very far back in the field and had serious cramp from Saturdays race and people were geeing me along - it was great and the marshalls were very friendly indeed and we got a free backpack instead of a goody bag (although it did have a kitkat chunky inside :))

Wonder when the photos will come out??

Seems unanimous - tough race, but excellent organisation and marshalling!

I can fully agree with the marshall who mentioned the 4x4 being rather obstructive.

It was on a tight little steep loop where you had runners going both up and down a track about 2 metres wide with a line of cones down the middle. So single file up and single file down pretty much but worked just fine.

This 4x4 driver decided he was going to move the cones because he wanted to get up there (even though there were other routes). As the marshall tried to reason with him the width of a 4x4 plus a marshall meant there was no room to get through. As this was a steep downhill we were probably moving at 5:30 - 5:45 pace as the guy in front of me ploughed into the marshall and I ploughed into him.

Definitely no fault of the marshall though.....

Interesting announcement considering that it was only last Friday that we were saying how British athletes dont seem to want to put their necks on the line and announce record attempts any more.

Next Friday, July 24th, Mo Farah is going to attempt to break Dave Moorcroft's 5000m record of 13:00.41 at Crystal Palace. Of course, when Dave Moorcroft set this mark it set a new world record but this will be an attempt for Farah to take his 4th British record.

Anyone who has run a 5K of any sort, be it a parkrun, an RFL or any other 5K will realise just how impressive this will be if he makes it!

No, it 14:00 by Craig (Mo)ttram, the fastest Oceanic marathon runner ever!

Thats why I suspect Mo Farah will be the guy being talked about as the one to take the parkrun record soon.

Well, the world record is 12:37.35, and that was run on a track. I would doubt anyone has run sub 13 on anything but a track.

As for a 13-something at parkrun I dare say someone might have broken 14 minutes, but if they have it wouldn't be by much!
