I did the Newcastle Race for Life this morning (5K) and my time was 36mins and 40 seconds which is better than my last time of 47mins in Dublin so that's good. It was pretty humid too.
And it has given me the much needed boot up the bum I needed making me realise just how far the Great North Run is, and the fact that boy, I need to train train train!
Wow, what a great improvement on your previous time k_bagpuss. :T
Thanks for the link Alias; I need to buy new trainers this week so am off to have a read ......2021 MFW No.18 £9900/£10,000Mortgage at 21.07.20 £178,999 Mortgage today £150,8910 -

Ok, so upon reading this site (http://www.runnersworld.ltd.uk/pronation.htm) i then decided to test my feet, and post a picture of the trainers ive been wearing for a few years. I think i bought the trainers in 2004, they were samples and cost me £20.
Looking at the wear, i cant seem to work out if i have a problem.
Trainers
Last weeks road race tar stuck to bottom
Cant seem to work out where these white bits keep coming from
and the wet foot test, looks like i might have normal feet..
What do you think.?0 -

No idea about Garmins having never used one. However, I would expect 11.30 is either 11mins 30secs per mile or 11.30 mins/mile (ie 11mins 18secs). It wont be 11.3 miles per hour unless you are SUPER talented.;)
Ha ha ha, yes 11.3 mph would be pretty cool! silly me, Ah, the blood must have rushed away from my brain whilst running!
yes, made me smile today, rather than despair - so the start slow slow slow advise seems to be the best I've had yet! Oh, and it's cost me nothing to chat on here and head out the door in my trainers. Funny really, when you think what I spent over years and years trying to lose weight. Now, I just eat all natural and unprocessed food and exercise! so simple really.0 -
k_bagpuss - nice time improvement, and good luck with training for the GNR
Very nice LSR today Simply - the second half improved pace is what I'm aiming at over such distances. Just not quite got there yet! :rotfl:
becky/rich good ten mile race that, especially given the conditions. And in becky's case more so just a few weeks after getting back into the running again
bj-sailaway good progress without even trying - always the best sort. The average pace on the garmins will be mins:sec per mile or per km depending on how you have set yours up. I have mine set to miles as that is what I work best with!
I do connect a 305 to my work Mac (linux box at home so it's all a bit techy involving 3rd party software). I've got training centre installed fine - possibly off the CD I got with the 305?! I'm on 10.5.6 I think but can check the exact number tomorrow and what version of the training centre software I have. Looking at Garmin's site the latest version was earlier this month which I don't have but might upgrade to (https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloadsUpdates.jsp?product=010-00467-00&cID=142&pID=349). There are a couple of 3rd party Mac apps out there that people like but often rely on the training centre to have grabbed the data off the watch anyway. I've not persevered with them myself cos a lot are aimed at cyclists/hikers who want route maps for posterity rather than the actual distance/pace stats.
Again, this link to the pdf manual might be of use for setting the watch itself up with how you want distance and all sorts set up - https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/manual.jsp?product=010-00467-00&cID=142&pID=349 Despite the URL it is free to download.0 -

Thanks Krider2010, I do have a disk that came with the Garmin, but as it's quite old, thought the website download would be better. I'll try the disk, then maybe upgrade - but at this stage I only really need the basics. Actually, I probably don't even need that, but like techy stuff, and it all adds to the excitement!
Off work tomorrow, so think I'll be out again - woo hoo! This is fun!0 -
Evening All!
Just got back to London and off o sleep shortly - have never done a 2 race weekend before - its tough (but it gets you blimming fit)
Feel good about my time - was aiming for sub 1:45 until weds run anyway and I think if I'd taken it easier then I could have done better today.
Anyway am playing the long game at the moment training wise (10 months in fact till my next mara) so there's no rush - but am looking forward to 400m intervals on Tuesday and a 13 miler on weds hopefully
Well done Simply, K_bagpuss and Smeft
Chick me and Rich are hoping to do Sale 10 soon - fancy it??
Trainer wise - Alias the asics gels are really for runners who do under 20 miles a week - do they make cumulus in mens?? I swear by them - I had 9s last time (3 yr old model) and they were great - you can get them online cheaply too - they are good for neutral feet and he step up ones from ascis gel.
Another good shoe that I havent tried is Nike Peagsus - Paula swears by them apparently
Happy running!0 -
My trainers are Nike Structure Triax11 and I had them fitted at the Nike store in New York last year. They are really comfy and light too. I'd definately buy another pair when they need replacing, although I've been reading about the new Lunarglide ones which I'm interested in trying outGood wine needs to breathe, if it stops breathing try mouth to mouth.0
