Um okay so I entered a competition on runnersworld and it seems I've won - I think i've just won a GNR place - just waiting for them to confirm :eek: :eek:
Here was the comp:

W00t! good job!0 -
Well done on the comp, becky!

Well done on the comp, becky!

And yet weirdly I didnt feel too bad at all - how come when I'm really struggling I look okay:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Sitting by emails now - wonder if there's some catch to the comp or what?? Maybe I am just suspicious...:o0 -
Well done Becky.0

I hope the comp win comes through OK becks, that would be great.
Well another new longest distance for me 8 miles this evening, it took 1:37:00 which is terrible but only a few minutes more than my 7 miler last week. I know I said I wasn't worried about times at this stage but it would be nice to think that one day I might actually do a decent time for a long run.0 -
Top running evab - yet another new distance :j
Congrats becky on the GNR - assuming it is all authentic etc.
Can I ask what the considered opinion on fuel during longer runs is? I run with water for my midweek runs since it got warmer (so 5/6/7 miles), and tend to have a sports drink at the weekend (>=8 miles) purely because I go out first thing without eating and given my general propensity to faint I like to have something there me. However I've read some stuff about half marathon runners taking things like Jelly Babies to get round. I was under the impression for a half that gels/sweets/etc. were not really required and it was more for marathon runners. Science/advice/information appreciated.
Not that I've ever fancied food 8/9/.. miles into a run. Was hard enough last week even to force some solids down after my shower for some reason.0 -
Yep got my place in GNR now so thats cool - its the week after fleetwood so I'm not expecting too much but can go and it be mostly hassle free since its an hour from OH (and he'll be recovering post marathon too)
Well done on 8 miles Evab - I know it feels important but the time really doesnt matter because you are training the body to have the strength to do longer runs (but still to only be a few minutes longer than your 7 is really good!)
Krider - nope you dont need it - I ate 3 jelly babies during the marathon more for something to cheer me up when I was struggling (and they only made my stictch worse anyway)...gels etc really are unnecessary (plus they cost), you can run up to 20 miles in training with a sports drink - if you feel faint at that distance or more you can bring in some jelly babies - but be prepared to try them out for a few runs before any marathon attempts - you dont want to get a dogdy tummy

Another two race weekend coming up, the Leeds parkrun in the morning and the Eccup 10 miles on Sunday. I think that I'm feeling pretty good going into the weekend but you never really can tell until you get stuck in.
The last 4 Saturdays have produced parkrun times of 18:53, 18:37, 19:05 and 19:10....so will be looking to get back down below 19 mins in the morning.
Then, on Sunday a time of around 1:03ish would seem about right but we dont really know much about the true severity of the course yet, so anything other than mild undulations will push that time upwards.
It may seem a little too early for Becky to be attempting the same two races but she's up to it so why not!:D:D
Great going evab - that time is far from terrible, in fact it is perfect if you want to tackle new distances with minimal injury risk. So give yourself a big congratulatory pat on the back.:D
Krider - there is absolutely no need for solid fuel of any sort during half marathons, it can only be counter-productive. Your body doesnt need to be given any digestive tasks when it is already trying hard to convert energy in the muscles.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Any new races that need adding/amending - let me know and I'll make the necessary changes!
Black = Completed Races.
Blue = Planned Races.
The blue figures next to the results are the WAVA age grading percentage followed by the relevant world record to which the time is being compared.
With age grading everyone is on an equal footing - the score takes out any advantage/disadvantage due to age and any advantage/disadvantage due to being male/female.
So whatever your age or sex if you score 52% it is better than another person's 51% regardless of their age/sex.
So what are the scores? They are quite simply a measure of your performance compared to the person who holds the world record for that distance in your age group and of your gender.
Clearly some of the WRs are out of date, but there has to be a stable basis on which to calculate otherwise the gradings would need to be re-computed every time a WR changes.
So, in simple terms your WAVA rating is:
Your time is 4 x World Record 25.00%
Your time is 2 x World Record 50.00%
Your time is 1.5 x World Record 66.67%
Your time is 1.25 x World Record 80.00%
