Thanks 'Richoneday', in a crowd of 100, I'm sure I'll be keeping those in the 90s company! Which is what really upset me on the 10K, but hey, I'm taking it steadier now, and at least I'm out there trying - which is one up on the lazy bums stuck in bed eh! ha ha!

It really is much more fun than being 6 1/2 stone heavier 2 years ago. The plan is to nail this last 14lb by running it off! fingers crossed.

Don't worry about what position you finish, bj. Improvement will come with time.

Is anyone doing the Wimbledon parkrun with me this week?!

If by a few weeks you mean the 25th, I will be abroad. But let me know when you do come down for it again.

Swanning off "week" into my first job, as it happens! Only for a weekend break though.

1st Aug I'm having a wisdom tooth pulled at 09:30 (yes, really!) so that's also no go for me! should be good the 3 weeks after that, though...

    Hi all
Been reading all the posts, they do a good job of keeping me motivated. Managed to get out 4 times last week, and aiming for the same this week. Three miles is feeling pretty OK, am joining a friend for a 4 miler on Sun, then just need to up the distance some more.

Anybody got any advice about blisters- have had them on the end of my toes for the past week- my trainers feel OK, they are not too tight being a size bigger than I usually wear?

Interesting discussion about walking/ running programmes, I followed one to get me started last year- I had read it was good way to get started and it seemed ok. It did suggest keeping the pace pretty fast with the walking, and I suppose my fitness levels weren't too bad so maybe that helped.

    Happy running

Tee hee well have fun Beertins on your break (and ouch on the tooth) :D

Did 5.8 miles in 57:54 tonight so solid 10 minute miling - ate wayyy too many pretzels earlier and did feel rather sick most of the way round - one way to slow down though :p

    Happy running all!

Hey smetf - glad to see you're still running :D

run/walk/run has been covered loads of times on the board but basically our opinion is it can be damaging to you muscles and joints - you wouldnt launch into a full sprint run without warming up because cold muscles are less elastic, so why try to run after letting you muscles go cold just seems illogical to us - but its promoted widely elsewhere as the cure for unfit people to get good at running by people who want to profit from unknowledgeable non-runners trying to get fit...

We are lucky - we have no profits to think of so can just speak our minds - we're not saying it wont get you fit or get you running - it will. We're saying we think there are safer ways to go about building fitness (like walking)...

I hope that clears it up a little :D

Another 64mins of running last night apart from 20secs to cross a road due to traffic, so not looking too bad for the next race. Plan to push out another 4 6milles before next weeks next race, and hopefully keep myself less than 50mins as times have been getting worse, as training gets worse.

Worked it out to be 12.36kms (7.68miles), which isnt too bad as i could of gone further if the wife met me with a bottle of water as planned.. I found running in the cycle lanes was much easier than running on the pavements, pavements just confused me with too many lines.
