There is also a race series in Battersea:D
7am starts :eek::eek: (and 7pm ones)
Info here:

Doesn't start till the 18th. Where abouts do you live, then? I'm in Crystal Palace, so not too far myself.
Having popped back to the site, I note there's now one starting in Reading. Wondered if it will be in the same place I went to British Miliary Fitness last night. Sadly, however, the website describes the location as "XXXX_LOCATION", although I'm reassured to hear it will be run "entirely on XXX_SURFACE_DESCRIPTION"0 -
Hello everyone. I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks, but thought it was time to introduce myself! You've all helped me generate a little bit of motivation to get moving again so thank you! I did Race for Life 5k on Tuesday which I managed in 32 minutes (not the first, but certainly not the last home so I was happy!) and even pulled myself off the sofa last night to do a couple of miles.
Legs are stiff today, though, so what's the advice from you experts? Keep on going and have another little jog tonight or give myself a night off? At the moment my mind is willing but the body's weak! All and any advice gratefully received!0 -
Hi Liz,
Welcome and well done
Since your RFL can count as a speed session and you have completed a session since - I woudl rest - you normally feel worse two days after any speed session and would then go running that day (i.e. today) to ease out the aches - but since you went yesterday it might be a good idea to take a night off and go again tomorrow...
Remeber even if its painfully slow all you'll be doing is getting rid of the toxins that have built up and easing out the muscles.0 -
Sorry rich - was trying to look busy between tasks at work and got carried away typing
Recovery run was 4.1m in 41:03 (10:00/mile). Opened it up in mile 3 downhill but couldn't have maintained that today.
Welcome lizguil
Total miles = 17.8 miles0 -

Ooooh that sounds interesting... Thought it does depend where it is as to how easy it is for me to get to. See what you mean about the site though! I like the one about replacing the image :rotfl: August 1st - perhaps a date for the diary...0 -
Now too be fair to parkrun they havent announced Reading yet and its not appearing on the usual list (click the 'our events' link on the homepage), plus stop laughing its free - show some love people...0

I'm in Carshalton. Are these park runs for the speedy? Maybe I need to give it a while. Just the set course, and no roads appeals! Also, even though I'm still the slowest, there is definitely something about having your eye on folk in front of you!
thanks for hte link.0 -
I'm not laughing (well not much ) - I'm being keen and interested and will now cause lots of parkrun server load until I get more information
And bj-sailaway, having peeps in front is great as it does make you keep going either chasing them down and overtaking, or even just to keep up with them.0 -

Not at all, go along and try it out.
Nobody cares what speed you run at, that is up to you - but I guarantee that if you do them regularly you will develop rivalries and targets.
All that is required is a bit of respect for other participants as mentioned above. It really does get annoying when you have the '3 abreast' gossiping clans who notice the leader struggling to get past and dont register that there may just be one or two more runners following through and just continue merrily blocking the route.
But they are great, relaxed events and an ideal way to progress your fitness. My first two outings last November were 45th and 50th positions in fields of less than 100 and have been a staple diet ever since (26 parkruns and counting).:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
