Talking of competition sammy rushes to check out scorgeybabies WAVA!
You're way ahead of me sammy, you don't have to worry yet.
**Scorybabe makes a mental note that she really needs to know 3 minutes off her pb to be in competition with the samster**;)Too much month, not enough Cash!

I've run all my races on my own - even when Rich is there hes gone at the start anyway - I always find someone to chat too - though I get told off for having enough breath to chat
The best one so far for friendlyness was St Alban's 10 miler - I cant wait to do that next year0 -
You're right Beertins - sure Rich will have some sciencey know how on it...although i've found as my distances have got longer the time needed to get into a run has got longer too - it was taking me 10 miles to get going pre-marathon - not sure I can even run 10 miles now
Maybe, but (like me) you know that as long as you're doing regular 4 milers, you can push yourself up to that distance again fairly quickly.Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
I'm not doing any running atm moment waaaaaaaaaaa - I'm not allowed at all till next week at which point I shall have a crack at a very slow 4 and see how it goes
(I havent run for 6 weeks and I've put on 5kgs - cant wait to get back into skinny minnyness again)

Thats whats making me nervous about the race the fact i have never done one and dont know what to expect or is expected.
You'll be fine. If I can manage it, anyone can. Just do what I do, block everyone else out and just be in your own little worldToo much month, not enough Cash!

I wholeheartedly agree with everything that's been said about competition. The thing is, usually people excel at something or other, so if it isn't sport it could be academic or art or drama. To try to dispel thoughts that people shouldn't be competitive is going against human nature. I think the reason why the do-gooders try to make it all about taking part is that they don't want young children to be labelled as 'losers' at an early age, then grow up thinking that is what they are, in some kind of self-fulfilling prophesy. TBH I think it takes more than a school sports day for that to happen.
I was rubbish at sports at school. I was always one of the last to be picked for teams, but I was a nerd so I was happy to be good at other stuff and leave the sports to other kids. It doesn't make me any less competitive now, even though I have never won so much as an egg and spoon race.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

Well you know what you're capable of. You can run the distance, so just try to run your own race. You know you can do that, because you're done it in training!
I was talking about rules and procedures.

Well, what worked for me is one day on-one day off on the slow 4 milers. Then increase the number of day per week first before you do too much speed/distance work. I figure it's good to get the millage up slowly and to spread it out as much as possible to avoid getting injured again. Or have you got any races you need to do specific training for? Either way, don't try to rush back too soon. the last thing you want is for a recurrence or permanent damage. RE: weight, mine was heading in the wrong direction too. Now that I'm doing a respectable weekly mileage again I've managed to reverse it, though!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -

:rotfl: Oops! Well it's fairly straightforward really. Not really much in the way of rules, but it's normally rood etiquette to move to the side once you've passed someone, to let those faster than you past.Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
