I of the opinion that we need to be good role models to our kids, we would hate them to grow up with a 'I'm gonna stay at home and let the government pay for me'.f we want something we should work for it, if they are taught this by a Mum who cares for a family or a Mum who juggles work and home.

I remember not long back someone flaming mothers in general, and it ended up its cause that person and their partner was unable to have children, so they dispised everyone else who has them, just wondering if it was you or not, as I know most posts I have read by you are always full of scorn and anger.
For the record, yes I have THREE children, yes I am a single stay at home mother (though wasn't when I first had them, and worked 6 nights a week in a restrurant, .whilst their father worked 5 days a week at the JOB CENTRE). In the preceeding decade I have spent half of it working and half of it unemployed. Latest unemployment has been for 28months in which last 21 has been spent in study on an access course leading up for a degree this coming Septemeber. I chose to study around my childrens school hours, so I can be on hand for my children.
If not for the debt I got myself into whilst working, I admit the benefits I recieve for each child works out very generously, If not for debts, I could easily afford the entitlement of two children to cover the costs of upbringing all three children, mainly because I am not into name brands (unless bought with 75% off sometimes more) I love sales. I do not see going abroad as a neccessity, £250 holiday to wales (thats including the travel) is more than good enough once a year.19th March 2007 LBM£5,969.63 1st January 2018 £5960.18, 1st January 2019 £11,032.0018th August 2023 £12,435.00, Student Loan £22244.00 From 2009-12Challenges: To learn to stop spending..0 -
Well yes perhaps a hotel managers job is a menial job in your opinion however it was highly paid, and by the way I have a college diploma, I never went to University as I have lived alone aince 16 when my parents divorced and put myself through college while working and then continued from receptionist up to manager by hard work, I didn't have the option not to work full time.
Oh and I didn't get 'an important title' without working hard for 10 years and proving I was worthy of the job.
You seem to imply that 'menial' jobs are those with no degree required ?
I don't recall Alan Sugar having a degree, but he was a hard worker and that's how he got to the top of his game.2016 Sell £96/£1000

I've got a degree and all that proves is that I can stick at something for 3 years, it's pretty bloody useless in the real world.:A

Im wondering if you are somewhat a little Jealous of Stay at home mums? Maybe you would love to be in the position I am, where I have a hard working husband who is both loving and supportive and who is proud of the fact that he supports me finacially to enable me to stay at home and bring up our children and not rely on others to care for them.Quit Day - 8th July 2009.0 -
You may look down on the lady in the chip shop serving up your cod, but I bet with every chip she fries she is probably doing it for her children not for herself.

I think that there is too much of the green eyed monster and people abusing the site as a means to character assassinate stay at home moms and the lower paid.
A job is a job - earning money in an honest fashion to support your home and family should surely not be scorned just because it's role does not require qualifications. Equally there is value in children being raised in the home rather than in childcare which cannot be measured in monetary amounts.
I have 3 children, the eldest two were in childcare whilst I worked ( and studied at home ) whilst my children have thrived academically they are both incredibly clingy and require all my time when at home. As being made redundant during my last pregnancy has now meant I can be an at home mom, I am happier now than when I was working as I can now spend more time with my children and watch them grow up. As an intelligent human being I can always return to work at a later date.
Child Benefit, Tax Credits and the like are there for a reason and should be claimed honestly by those entitled to them. The government clearly sees that children need the best possible start in life and is why these funds are available. It should not be forgotten that these children are the taxpayers of the future and will be keeping us all as pensioners.
It just goes to show the underlying misery of some people when their life is consumed with monitoring what the people down the street have. If you are not happy do something about it and stop trying to spread the misery around.
I would like to know what skcollobcat10 does for a living and how well qualified they are. Lets be honest, this too would be a menial job unless it's Prime minister or Queen of England and it's not going to be that as the benefit system that they are bleating on about is agreed by them anyway!0 -

The queen of England is the single biggest benefit claimant in this country:A

Oh no! We can't have qualifications being defunct now, can we?
You know, skcollobcat, your life must be pretty sad and limited if you think that work, skills and careers should be people's most important life priorities.
