  • Thanks for the replies and the help.I'm still on a 0.11mb connection speed

I have an ADSL router (which works perfectly fine on my next door neighbour's equipment).

I just got this message from customer support at Madasafish

On connecting to the router via my browser,I get these results:

    Anyone like to translate? :)

    Hi mariacallous,

In case you haven't already had a reply. Your downstream datarate of 1632 kbps indicates that you will have a download speed of about 1200 kbps (1.2 Mbps). Is this about what you're getting?

    Regards,

    Felix
  • Hi mariacallous,

There is one other thing you might look at, particularly as your modem works "next door". ADSL broadband requires a microfilter at every phone outlet point in use on that phone line in the house. If you have a bad microfilter, you will have problems with line speed. I would suggest that first you check that every point has a filter and then fit a new one where you connect your modem. You could try this:

Borrow your neighbour's microfilter and fit it to your modem, disconnect any equipment from ALL OTHER phone points and try again. Look at the downstream data rate and see if it improves. If it does, fit a new microfilter and remember to return your neighbour's.

Remember that it takes up to 3 days for your downstream speed to increase as measured by any speed tester.

    Regards,

    Felix

Just an update, after my router whet belly up, the customer service tech guy rang me up and went through every possible cause, ending up with a new router being sent to me, whcih all works fine now!

Just one question, it's been over 10 days now, so i assume testing my line has finished? if so the speed i get now - 3.2-4.2mbs, is this the speed i should roughly get for the future?

    Thanks
  • I'm pleased for you. Unfortunately I'm still stuck at 0.1mbs with no date for when it might be even looked at.

Thanks but I've tried 4 microfilters now (and 3 routers), even just plugged the router straight into the main telephone socket without a microfilter and the results are identical everytime. If my average speed for the day is a rapid 0.4mbs it kicks in at that speed, same as when it is the usual 0.1mbs, it kicks in at that speed and never improves.
My connection speed is always 0.11 or 0.12 mbs from the madasafish speed test. There were 2 days when I got 0.4.

    Hi
Take the backplate off the master socket and try your test socket, put a filter in and then your router and see what results you get.

There is no test socket in there, just 2 wires. I did get 3mb for the first 2 weeks so it wouldn't be that it wasn't up to date enough socketwize tho probably could do with a new one!

I would like to confirm that we have escalated this to BT and we're waiting for them to get back to us with further information. It's not that we're not working on it, it's just we're at a point where we need further diagnostics from BT in order to pinpoint what is causing the problem.

All suppliers who rely on BT Openworld equipment work in this way - it's not just us. Suppliers who do LLU services (Talk Talk and parts of Tiscali) and cable service providers (NTL) are able to manage these kind of faults on their own. However looking at their forums on ADSL guide it doesn't suggest that they're a better service overall for being able to do so. Here is a comparison chart of the four providers based on customer feedback.

    Kind regards,

  • Your help is very much appreciated Samara, but at the end of the day I'm stuck here with snailpace internet and no hint of a date when it might be repaired. Maybe BT are not exactly fast when the ISP isn't their own?
  • Hi Mariacallous,

I can appreciate how frusterating it must be from your perspective and I will keep pushing for more info from BT. Thank you for your patience while we work on getting this resolved.

I'm under the impression that BT Openreach/Wholesale are not allowed to offer 'better' services/pricing to BT Broadband as they're meant to be operating seperately - in the interests of not creating a monopoly situation.

    Kind regards,
    Samara
