I’m hoping someone can help me to improve my Madasafish broadband speed as I have a feeling my internal wiring could be the cause............
V1NNY
Basically your wiring is a complete mess and you cannot expect to achieve your maximum ADSL speed potential until it is sorted out.
I can't believe that this wiring was done by a BT engineer as it's a real bodge. The master socket (diagram 2) should not be fitted under the floorboards and has not been wired correctly i.e. incoming pair to A & B to allow the extension wiring to be isolated.
The idea of the NTE5 master socket is that the lower face plate part including the extension wiring can easily be removed.
This isolates all extension wiring and leaves access to the test socket. This is not possible the way that your master socket has been incorrectly wired and it should be easily accessible and not located under the hall floorboards!
Ideally for best ADSL performance, you want the master socket to be re-located to where your PC is situated using a new cable and then by using a master socket face plate filter like this, all other extensions in the property could be filtered.
At present the master socket (diagram 2) is being used as a simple junction box.
The socket in the photo labelled (diagram 3) is not a BT socket (screw terminals) and only one master socket should ever be fitted in an installation.
When the wiring has been corrected, you should then get a significant increase in your connection speed. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

By keying "Alt" together with "Print screen", I can capture this image (presumably as a bit map) and then past it into other software.
Please can someone point me at a "noddy" language thread that will tell me how to post it on here, so I can show it to you ?

An easier method may be to simply perform a speed test here and then copy and paste the forum url link that they provide into your post.

Thanks Samara. As posted previously, it doesn't seem to matter what my sync. speed is, (3.6 or 4.6) the download speed always seems to be about 2.6MB. Except today, it's still comparatively low.
Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 1824 Kbps 448 Kbps
Noise Margin 17.8 dB 19.0 dB
Line Attenuation 48.0 dB 27.0 dB
Output Power 17.8 dBm 11.9 dBm
Nothings changed at my end - except heavy rain yesterday afternoon possibly not doing underground BT cables much good!!?
Still the same this morning (17th). Sync. rate 1.8MB speed 1.3MB - what's happened?
The reality now is that I'm receiving a service, 2MB, that I could be paying 50% less for over the 12 months contract?0 -

Hi Espresso,
Many thanks for the link.
I had visited speedtest.net before: super comprehensive site and good fun; however over on thinkbroadband I have kept a graph of my actual speed, since I converted to broadband from dial up. This graph demonstrates pretty well all the speed problems users report on this thread, so I thought I would share it with other sufferers.
I also have a simple routine for visiting thinkbroadband to do the speed check and then glancing at the latest news as I log out.
Did anybody else clock the boss of BT on breakfast TV claiming it was official: BT is now the biggest Broadband provider and the "best".
Another complaint to the boss of the BBC from the boss of Brightview is required I think - I'm absolutely sure BT would not have sorted out my difficulties for free; in fact the bod from BT who came looking for their lost disused DACS, that was degrading my dial-up performance and blocking the installation of broadband, fed me duff information about the garden bell.
God luck V1NNY,
Who did your extension wiring ? It has got modern looking multicoloured wires and master socket ! (Probably time to confess that I did mine in the days when BT used the computer typeface "T" logo, using some old telephone extension cable fly tipped in my lane; it is a bit of a long story, more suitable for the "the Moneysaving Arms" playground).
Harry.

Hi Oldagetraveller,
You're sync rate is still at 1824K, I wouldn't expect this as I've seen what your line is capable of. Could you please rebooted the router ?
Also could you please test your microfilters. Unplug everything from all phone sockets in your home. Check the sync rate you get by cycling through each microfilter from the master socket. If you get a lower sync with one of the filters, we've found the baddy!
If testing your microfilters doesn't kick up anything, could you please try connecting from the test port from within the master socket?
Thank you.
Kind regards,

I have been with Madasafish for nearly a year but appart from the very good customer service I find the speed absolutley awfull. I have one of their routers connected on an extension upstairs (good quality digital internet cable) but I have had no end of problems, ran tests etc etc. I am told I need a wireless router but I don't want to run the risk of criminals picking up my waves in the street as happens around the country. I used to be with the abysmal Wannado/Orange but at least the speeds were better, and their router was connected to the same extension cable. I am getting around 2.12 meg for £17.99 a month and limited 5 Gig usage which is very poor and as soon as my 1 year lock in expires I am switching to another provider who offeres better quality speed as well as unlimited download usage. I have asked for my mack code but in my reply It wasn't given
Anyone else with the same problem?0 -

Thanks Samara. About 7.30 my sync. rate was 6.1MB and speed about 1.3-1.4MB. I'm pugged into master socket as normal. Swapped filters, I only use the two supplied by MAAF, 1 for BB and other for 'phone. Only BB connected. Re-booted router. Still exactly the same sync rate and speed.
Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 6144 Kbps 448 Kbps
Noise Margin 7.1 dB 21.0 dB
Line Attenuation 47.0 dB 28.0 dB
Output Power 19.7 dBm 11.9 dBm
Surely it shouldn't be necessary to go through all this performance to achieve consistency? I was happy with 2.8MB but not with this sudden drop to something, as previously mentioned I could have signed up to for 50% less cost!0 -
Hi Hubballi,I have one of their routers connected on an extension upstairs (good quality digital internet cable) but I have had no end of problems, ran tests etc etc.
I cannot place enough emphasis on the importance of connecting from the master socket. Connecting from an extension will cause problems such as poor speed performance.
If you change to another ISP who offers up to 8Mb services you will have the same problem if you continue to connect from an extension. Speeds up 8Mb are incredibly sensitive to internal wiring - if you're serious about your speeds than you need to eliminate the internal wiring.I don't want to run the risk of criminals picking up my waves in the street as happens around the country.
Criminals are opportunistic. If you make it very difficult to hack into your wireless network, they probably won't. That's why all the wireless routers that we supply support WEP and WPA security.
I would urge you to either connect wirelessly via the master socket OR if you're really against wireless locate your router at the master socket and run an Ethernet cable from the router to your machine. You can get very long Ethernet cables, and unlike telephone extensions they don't detoriate the quality of your services.
Kind regards,

Hi Oldagetraveller,About 7.30 my sync. rate was 6.1MB and speed about 1.3-1.4MB.
I'm sorry - I should have explained this better!
If your sync rates decrease, your throughput speeds will immediately decrease too. If your sync rate increases, it will take three days for your throughput speeds to increase.
If you see an increase in your sync rate please stay connected for three days and you should see an increase in your speeds; provided that the sync rate stays at that rate or higher.
So provided that your sync rate maintains at 6.1Mb are higher for three days consecutively than you'll be seeing faster throughput speeds.
When your sync rate dropped to 1824Kbps this would have effected your throughput speeds straight away.
If you see another drop in your sync (ie. you don't maintain the 6.1 sync) please let me know so that we can further investigate this.
Kind regards,
SamaraMadasafish Customer Care0
