I've been reading this tread with great interest, I'm looking for 3 lengths of star galaxy with cut out for sink, tap and draining groves,

    1,2300
    1,2300
    1,1200

Before I start wasting people's time could anybody please give me an idea of what that's likely to cost?

Prices are ok, corian is nearly always more expensive, with the time consuming fabrication. The 400mm overhang is to much, both stone and corian state 300 max overhang unsupported.

    Thanks for the reply Premkit.

I thought only 300mm if there was only a 600mm deep cabinet underneath (so a total of 900mm wide) or a 600mm and shallow 300mm (so a total of 1200mm wide).

I was told that as 1200mm of the 1600mm will be supported, I will be OK. Should i double-check that?
I would have though 3/4 of the worktop supported by cabinets is better than 2/3 or is my Physics wrong?

I've had a 450mm overhang on my quartz breakfast bar for ten years with no problem.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • Hi EssexExile, how wide\deep is your island and what deph cabinets do you have underneath. Do you have additional support?

It's a breakfast bar, 600mm deep cabinets for 1.1m. The quartz (Ceasarstone) is 900mm wide so overhangs the back of the cabinets 300mm & is about 1.6m long with a semi-circular end that overhangs by just under 500mm. No additional supports.
I also have a 1m stretch between 2 cabinets where it is only supported at the back. I queried these with the boss of the company (he was a neighbour then) & he assured me it would be fine, & it has been.

Edit: I better mention it is 30mm thick.

300 mm is an industry standard. Look at the specification on stone or Corian, they will state 300mm, some stone will take a little more but i wouldn't risk it with corian unless strengthened.
  • I am just strating to investigate replaceing our exisiting worktop with a grantite one. It is a straight run with a hob and sink and is a fraction over 3 metres - 3.02 or therabouts - running from a wall to a full height cupboard (whihc includes the oven). Width is a standard cupboard - so 600mm. Our house is victorian so I wouldnt trust the walls to be absolutely straight.

For a cost effective solution am I going to need a join in the granite or will it be possible to come up with a piece a bit over 3 metres?
