Not sure if you'd classify this as 'North East', but they're an excellent firm in Harrogate, North Yorks - large choice & excellent service at reasonable price - I was v. happy with them for my kitchen work surfaces & breakfast bar 18 months ago -

Just confirmed with set in stone york that'd we'd like to order a silestone worktop with them. Pre sales contact has been fast. Price is comparable with affordable granite. We're in the south east so nationwide coverage. Will report back on service on the other side!

  • Is it possible to receive a recommendation for where to start in the South East / Surrey please? We have a budget for a few projects, but don't want to go for laminates ... would love to think I could afford granite or quartz ... is there any supplier you'd recommend that I could visit or call out? I'm a little bit in love with Lemon Spice or Kashmir Gold, but think I want to get blue cabinets, so they may end up being too strong ...

Hi.. I'm looking to get some granite/quartz worktop fitted in our new kitchen. I'm in Liverpool. Can anyone recommend any companies in the North West of England?

    Thanks
  • I have laminate worktops at present but would like to upgrade to granite. The central heating boiler is located under the worktop and I have made a section of worktop which slides right out when the boiler is being serviced.
Clearly such an arrangement would be impractical with granite. However, I was wondering whether it would be possible to install a stout stainless steel piano hinge and gain access that way? The size of the panel is 750mm wide and 610mm deep. I think the total weight of that would be less than 40kg with 30mm thick material meaning a 20kg lift at the outside edge which is not unreasonable. Securing the panel when vertical would not be a problem.
Can anyone comment on this please?

    Set in Stone York report.

Silestone worktop - great fit, looks lovely.

Booking in - they were due to come 10am to template - they didn't arrive until 5.30pm as they were coming from York to Sussex, and got called on the way down and told to take a detour to Peterborough. Template complete in 30mins.

Day of fitting - arrived at 9.30am - fitted within an hour. Payment taken over the phone using credit card. Our credit card blocked it - grateful they did as they tried to overcharge us by £250.

Ended up paying the correct amount by bank transfer, less £10, as wanted to pay that by CC to get section 75 protection. That took 3 weeks to pay as contacting them is awful.

Trying to get anyone on the phone is a nightmare. When they do pick up, the line is bad and a "I'll ring you back right away" means you ring them back again in an hour as get told "The phone hasn't stopped ringing". Emails don't get responded to after they have your deposit.

We were supposed to get a free sink as part of our order. We were offered £100 instead of the sink. We've been chasing and chasing and chasing for this money. Texts/calls/emails all ignored. Our small claims court form going in at the end of this week as just had enough of them ignoring us.

Sad thing is, I'd happily have recommended them - and even wrote a testimonial for their website on their request, until this farce of them refunding the £100 for the sink happened.

  • I have "granite worktops" which have been slightly chipped in places and the chipped areas are much lighter than the dark brown surface. Is this normal for expensive granite or have I been duped?
