Debate House Prices
In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non MoneySaving matters are no longer permitted. This includes wider debates about general house prices, the economy and politics. As a result, we have taken the decision to keep this board permanently closed, but it remains viewable for users who may find some useful information in it. Thank you for your understanding.

Well, you certainly avoided stating what the 'purpose' of the forum is and assumed we'd all know. I suppose we all know why it's 'failed' too.
Enlightening!
What makes you believe I have an agenda? I don't. I used to read this forum occasionally because it should be covering a subject I am interested in. Like the HPC forum, it's taken a dramatic turn for the worse, and now, instead of being a source of interest, it's closer to resembling a kindergarten playground. It's simply being dominated by the wrong type of people, and I can understand why MSE has it's reservations."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0 -

Its a shame that you don't contribute ona subject in which you have interest to try and help us better the forum.0 -

I agree, it's gone downhill of late, but there are still many worthwhile posts on here. Like you though, I'd be happier if I didn't have to sift the nuggets out.
It's no exaggeration to say that this forum and the Savings & Investments Forum have saved me thousands in the past year or two. I was an economic illiterate when I first visited.
There's a fine line to be trodden in creating a site that will both educate and entertain; two things this forum used to do well. Both aspects have a part to play if the site is to catch the less committed surfers, like I was originally.0 -

Yes. I also feel the standard of debate on here is quite poor. People seem ill informed and try to mask that with bluster.0 -

I think those at admit being ill informed, in general, are treated poorly often. It is often assumed, when tryig to ask questions, one is trying to make a point. I try to rememeber to clarify every now nd then that I am not asking a leading question.0 -
I find that this board is very cliquey (sp?) and there are continual references to stuff that happened quite a long time ago. It's a bit difficult as a newbie to get into the swing of things.
I've even had to resort to doing searches to find out what a "NDG" and "!!!!!!?" was.
If the board is moved to a wider discussion area such as DT, even as a sub-board, it will attract a larger range of people and a lot of the current cliques, gangs and animosities will be swept away. Perhaps that is why some people are resistant to the change?
Surely though, it can only be a good thing to have fresh blood washing through the forum, otherwise it stagnates into what a lot of the posters above are reporting, the same people having the same viewpoints and the same discussion / arguments.
Can someone tell me why they wouldn't want this board to be part of Discussion Time?"I can hear you whisperin', children, so I know you're down there. I can feel myself gettin' awful mad. I'm out of patience, children. I'm coming to find you now." - Harry Powell, Night of the Hunter, 1955.0 -

I think I did say why
I agree we can be cliquey.new people have and do fit in though: look at you
The swept away bit, I don't agree: there are cliques all over the DB....and, some of us are in contact off this board too, so for me that aspect holds no influence. I do agree fresh blood is needed. and the board only really sevres its purpose, IMO, if that happens. Or perhaps lots of people read and don't post. TBH, the ''vehemence'' is not new though.0 -
