Ours have always been Nanny (then Nan) and Grandad.

My great grandparents were Little Nanny & Grandad, and Nanny Stick! & Grandad (she walked with a stick!).

My grandparents were Nanny and Grandad (mums parents), Nanny P***** (Dads mum), and Nanny Dot (Step Dads mum).

    My children have got:-
Nanny Annie and Grumpy Grandad (My mum & Step-dad)
Grandad-who-talks-funny (My dad - he's in the Midlands!)
    Nanny and Grandad (OH's parents somehow didn't get silly names) and finally;
Nanny Full Stop. (The Dot got turned into a full stop when they write her cards:confused:) for the only surving great grandparent. :rotfl:

This makes me wonder what the record is for a child having the most Grandparents/Great Grandparents! If everyone has married and remarried it could be a lot!

Had to laugh at this, as I'm from the Mids myself. I love the accents there, but do wonder what our children (if we're lucky enough to have them) will talk like with a Brummie mother (albeit not too strongly accented) and a strongly accented Black-Country father, living in the South of England!

I'm having this problem! I'm due to become a young and glamorous grandmother at the grand age of 38, I've decided on Nanny. Def not being a granny!

Can't wait for the baby to arrive now!

My 3DSs called my mother Nana, as this is what I called my grandmother. They call DHs parents Gran and Granddad, as that is what DH called his grandparents. DH called both his grandmothers Gran, so it can get a bit confusing as to which one he means (both deceased).

OH's mum will be 'Nanny Sue' and my mum will be 'Nanny Karen'

There are so many more names for Grandads though -
    My Dads Dad is Pop,
    Mums Dad is Gamps
OH's is Bumpi (the other is dead)

My Dad wants to be Pop

I think that the kids will call them whatever they want - I think Granny and Grandma is very old fashioned. I called my dad's Mum Nanny when I was small and Nan when I was older.

I don't talk to my Mums parents but asked Dad what their names were the other day - he said 'Well, I called her mother Nanny Ast' The Welsh among you will appreciate that one!!!
A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

Where does the time go?

it is interesting the class thing; one point that hasn't been brought up is that REALLY posh people; or people who perhaps grew up abroad in certain countries where servants are more prevalent; won't call grandmothers Nanny because they were possibly brought up being cared for by a Nanny.

I know thats why my friend's mum refused to be Nanny when my friend had her daughter; she was brought up in Kenya and was looked after by "Nanny" more than her mum.

As for me... Grandma, and Grandpa. And, Grandma and Grandpa... appended with their surnames when not in their company so we knew which one we were referring to. I know my mum is already thinking what she'll be although there'll be no grandkids on the way for her for a few years! She likes Nana, but doesn't like Nan, and I can't help but think that once her GC's are past a certain age they'll abbreviate it to Nan... (like mummy / mum).
