Choosing what to be called as a grandparent

My two grandfathers (who died when I was very young, I don't remember them) were Grandpa R**** and Grandpa J***** and now my dad is Grandpa A****. My mum died just before DD was born and for some strange reason we never mentioned what she would be called so I refer to her as Granny L****, don't know if she'd have appreciated that!!!! In Wales we're lucky to have extra names because of the Welsh, so DD and DS have a Mamgu and Tadcu on DH's side (I also had a mamgu) and DH's gran is Nana, his grandfather was Dad and his GGM was Mam. So a wide and varied selection!!!
JxxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
Thank you all for your help.0

When my DD was expecting our grandson ( who is 2 now and the apple of our eyes) my wife said what did I want to be called? I said long-distance..whoops
Slowly being allowed back into the house now.......lol0 -
My mum died a month before my first grandson was born. she was known as nanny to my children. To us it felt `wrong` somehow to be called the same .I didnt want to be granny as i was just 40 so i ended up as nan nan.“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. My mum and dad are Grandma and Granddad (with two 'd's - my dad is very pernickity about it
) as when my DD1 was born, my maternal and paternal grandmothers were still alive and known as Nan and Granny so my mum had to be something different ! My Granny became known as Little Granny by all her great-grandchildren as some of my aunts inherited the title 'Granny'. We also thought Grandma was classier
. OH's mum died a few weeks after DD1 was born and has only ever been referred to as 'Granny Carol' even though none of them knew her.
Whatever you call yourselves though, your grandchildren will add their own variations at various times. My dad is called David, my mum calls him 'Davey' affectionately and my DS spent a good 6 months calling him 'Daisy'. My best friend's son called his Grandma 'Binma' for a while, which she coped with, but hated when it was abbreviated to 'Bin' :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

My kids call all of them nanny (2 grandmothers and 2 great-grandmothers) but say nanny first name when talking about them to distinguish which they mean.0 -

You could go Welsh and be called Nain (prounounced a bit like like the number 9) and it means grandmother.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife
