Difficult to say - my weeks are so variable. I do 50 miles in one week and 1,000 the next. When I do a lot of miles, my mpg then goes up a *lot* higher. Poky little journeys are bad for my car...
But for OH, at 37mpg, and 54 quid, we're looking at 10 gallons a week, aka 370 miles per week or approx 18,000 miles per year.
Does that sound about right?
My arse fits easily though the filter. Must be slimline...
That is more or less spot on..although he has just admitted that he gets 34 mpg according to his computer and goes through about 11 gallons a week. His mileage is about 330 a week for 5 days and 400 for 6 days. Again he gets better return if on motorway, but most of his journey is on the motorway.
I have also just had conversation re air con in the car as well..i think that he had not taken this into consideration.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

That's not so good. I have a 2l Avensis and on motorways I can easily get 45mpg - and that's with a right foot so heavy it has it's own gravity.
Hope this isn't the obvious, but have you checked tyres/roof-rack etc?"Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

I like the Avensis, my friend has one and loves it. I will check the tyres tomorrow, no roof rack on it as we only use one if going on holiday. I think he is stuck in traffic quite a bit as he uses the Manchester ring road to get to work and there is always a traffic build up.
The car is due a service as well..but i am positive he only had one about 6 months ago.
I have wanted him to get rid of it in the past, but we need two cars for work and the trains wouldn't get him to work in time either..looked into that one.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Maybe if Mr B could just slow down a wee bit that might help... if he's reluctant tell him it's either that or he gets a Smart car!Mortgage OP 2025 £6200/7000Mortgage OP 2024 £7700/7000

I like them actually but was just trying to think of a wee car that blokes wouldn't like! It does make a big difference though, I drove back from the lakes on the non-motorway route the other day at 50-60 mph and apart from the fact I was thoroughly hacked off at how long it took I was v impressed at how much less petrol I'd used:D!Mortgage OP 2025 £6200/7000Mortgage OP 2024 £7700/7000
