In our area contact is sorted out by SS - a contact officer/social worker picks up child and brings them to contact, then returns them home.
I am in awe of how you cope, but DEMAND help, she who shouts loudest gets it! <The others are left to their own devices as they are seen to be coping...>

Seam to have lost my last Post?
I will be asking for the Social Services to sign an agreement with me! That the time they have asked be the "up to 3 weeks and no more", or else I want them to be more upfront.
I shall also be asking for my expenses to be reimbursed. I shall keep receipts, and mileage for the car.
I shall be asking for them to find the correct childcare, playgroup etc that they had talked about for Mum anyway.
I have alot to think about. I have to keep an eye on how my health is going, and probably let my doctor know what I am having to take on. So if necessary he can help.
I do not want DGD to go into foster care, if it is only for a few weeks. If after the 12 weeks assessment in Westgate (where ever that is). they say that DD cannot be solely responsible, due to her learning difficulties, then it would certainly have to be thought of differently.
But I would hope that we would still be able to "foster" DGD within the family structure, as it is not neglect, or lack of love etc etc. She has brought DGD up well so far, it is just that she struggles to do the housework/washing up to the standards that is needed now that DGD is very active and doesnt sleep during the day. I am well aware that DD is not the most perfect mother, but she is neither a drugtaking, drinking, filth ridden home. Just messy and a back log of washing.
I think thatthis is excessive on the socialworkers side, but I also have to be aware that I have been saying that twin1 was not coping perfectly, which is why she is in the housing that she is in!. So why are the people who are supposed to be supporting her,not doing so?
I will not be taking any of this lying down. I wil be sorting out the best I can for all of the family concerned.
But tonight, I am too tired.
I shall be off to bed soon enough. Just winding down. Going to heat my herbal pads and get my shoulders sorted out. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

Mooloo, I think you would be able to manage better if they paid you up front & you then gave them receipts - you don't have the financial resources to subsidise the extra costs & expenses.0 -

I agree they should give you an allowance for each day. If she was polaced in foster care they would be paying out!:j rolo-polo1965 :j0 -
Well Biggest of Mooloo became ill at the weekend, so I actually had DGD all weekend. However my BF let us go to Oxford and take DGD with me. DS went to his friends for the weekend.
It was easier with BF around, but still I am permanantly tired and look like I have been through the mill. Dont seem to find time for my own personnal care. i.e. the face creams. Wrinkle stuff etc are out of the window. When I need them most!!!! haha:rotfl:
DD telephoned every day. I took DGD back to see her this morning, after I dropped DS at work. The New Horizons Worker tried to find out about help for me, but Twin1's social worker is not at work. On Annual Leave today. #
I tried to get help, but all they are saying is its up to my daughter to give me her benefits!. Well in an ideal world thats fine. But DD cannot give me anything until a week tomorrow, as tomorrows money is needed to pay her bills etc. Then she will have to work out a new budget. The new HOrizons Worker is going to help her there while she can.
Meanwhile she has suggested I could try applying for a community care grant? Need to check that out.
But Social Services are not planning on helping me out financially at all. They say that they do not have money to do these things. That Northampton dont. I saidthat I got funds when Twin2 and her son came to stay, for the first 3 months anyway. But apparantly no.
I said I will need extra funds for the electric and fuel to go and see DD, but she said that DD has to fund that. I said that that is not fair, she cannot budget for the fuel on her benefts, and its their fault that we are in this position. So all I got out of her was NO NO NO AND SYMPATHISE BUT WE DONT WORK THAT WAY!.
So I need to get some research done, and see what I am or am not entitled to.
First I have also to sort out My sons, benefits As he started his apprenticeship today. So I may not be allowed my childbenefit for him anymore. As we have been anticipating for a while now.!:oWhen I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

Mooloo, it is Northamptonshire County Council who maybe able to help you: fostering info pages and it is called "kinship" fostering. Also look at this from DirectGov: foster care rates0 -
Floss2, I have left a telephone message with the fostering team. nobody there to answer my questions at the moment. But thanks for the links. I am reading them properly now.
DGD is awake again now. And chattering ten to the dozen again.
I really will need to get her some more of her toys from her Mums too. But there is not a lot of room here. I will be having to change things around again, me thinks! Still trying to warm up as its bitter cold, and the drafts are brrrrrrrr in the kitchen and hallways.
I am very tired. Maybe I should have slept when she did for an hour? Will be in bed as soon as she is tonight.
Now waiting to here from DS if I have to go out again to collect him from work.(That sounds strange, my son at work!!).When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
I have also left a message on the Fostering Network help line. Seems to be all answer machines today!.When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0

Well just when Idont need it to happen,as DS has started a paid apprenticeship, all my childbenefit and taxcredits have stopped!.
Looks like we are in the mire faster then I would have liked.
As of today, my income is now only the ESA of 179.60 a fortnight. I really am not looking forward to trying to live on that, and I am now not able to even go and look for work, even if I could, as I have DGD to care for.
I think I am feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment. Very teary. Perhaps my hormone patch needs changing!!When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0
