Well last night I cut out 4 cushion covers out of a curtain, and made one. Using old poppers that I found, to fasten it.
I couldnt sleep very well so I gave up, and actually got up at 4.50am!!!!
I had a cup of tea, or two, and my toast. Flicked through some old Burda patterns from the 1990's and then I got back to the sewing machine and made the second cushion cover. I have nearly finished the third, but I dont have anymore poppers to use, so I may have to start somethingelse and come back to them when I have something I can use to fasten them. Perhaps I will make something else out of the rest of the curtain set? But I cant quite make up my mind, so I thought I would just pop on here and check my email and then the various threads that I follow.
I may need a quick trip onto our favourite web site, to see if I can order some accessories that I am going to need to be able to get on.
i.e. piping cord, poppers, basic buttons, and possibly some ribbons/ and some wadding.
I would like to make a quilt for a moses basket, and similar things that will need filling/padding. I am not sure I will be able to source that in charity shops or in other similar places.
Catch you all a bit later. I am on my own at home today.
My neck is not as bad as it has been, so I must remember, the heat pads and the timer!!.

When I make cushions I often make the envelope back if I don't have any fasteners. As for lining a moses basket, you could try an old duvet, you can cut the duvet filling in half if it's too thick. I usually replace the duvets & pillows when I know I'm getting a new lodger, as I find they get very stained, so I always have an old duvet stashed somewhere.
I've been hunting for come fabric suitable to make the chickens with, I finally found a couple of brown stripy pillow cases in the charity shop today.

  • Hi Mooloo
I was wondering if covering a piece of fleece would make a thick enough 'quilt' for a moses basket, if you made a frilly edge it could look pretty. I think most of the thick 'quilty' top covers that come with the moses baskets are never actually used and are just for show as babies under a year aren't supposed to use quilts and are more at risk of cot death if kept over warm! So a thinner layer would be much better.

I could try using fleece, I dont know about being able to sell baby's bedding though. I think there may be some Health and Safety measures, fire retardants or something. I will have to investigate ?
Its taken me until now to sort out an account on Etsy. Not really what I wanted, to be doing, but once I started to enquire I just sort of got started.! I am sure I will have to change no end of things on it. And I kept loosing things? And trying to remember what I had just written. Hopefully I will be able to edit it, and make it more professional later. Meanwhile its cup of tea time. Then I have a cushioncover that I am making out of an old Football shirt.
Hester, I do often make the envelope style cushions, but I didnt have quite enough fabric, which is why I decided to use other fastenings.! I thought that i had more poppers, but as usual I cant find anymore.!!
I have found a piece of Red Ribbon, and the Dalmations have Red collars and bows on them, so I thought I might use ribbon to tie one.
I also thought I might make a childs apron out of the same things.
Now i better be off and finish my tea, then get on and sew something to put on the site!.

Well its well passed my bedtime. I have been sewing this afternoon, evening. Drawing up some baby clothes patterns and as I had to go out, as car is going off for its MOT, I called into the charity shop and bought some more poppers, so I could finish the cushions. I also made another one out of a football tee-shirt.

I had a rest when I cooked my dinner, and had a bath. Now I just have to figure out how to use the other camera I borrowed, and then I can start to gather a catalogue of the things that I have done.
Want to do a few more baby things. And perhaps a few craft things, like heart shaped pillows, cushions, for weddings and favors maybe?
I have to alter one of the cravats as its too big on the neck. (It would have helped if they had given me neck measurements.) I havent got it back yet, so I might just see if I have enough fabric to make another one as the velcro was a stick on velcro, (all I had at the time) and it was a difficult thing to sew through.

Now I am off to bed. Been a long day. And I may have a few more long days ahead while I experiment.

Morning, well not surprisingly enough I slept well. But I woke around 7am and couldnt get back to sleep, so I got up by7.30 even though its Saturday.
Not that I have done anything except wash up last nights dishes, and make a cup of tea.
BF is coming over around lunchtime, so I really need to tidy up my sewing as its spilled from the dining room into the living room, and the kitchen. (The kitchen is where the iron and ironing board is set up.).

Just came across your thread. Well done in your going forwards and upwards! Love the handbag and the label that you have sewn in, it is really nice. There is a lady in our town that takes in alterations, she started small and now has a room in a haberdashery store and is doing really well!
