    Well I am home now.
Came home this morning via a drive by the road where the council has said the house is in. With Molly's drive by, and a photograph of a possible house, (the only vacant, council house in need of modernisation), I had a good incling of where we are nominated for.
I don't know how the council system works, homes are now run by an housing association.
The house is in a bad state. I picked up DS (yep I got hold of him eventually!). We had a quick recky of the area, and then wondered around the outside of the property and peeped in the windows. IF it is the house I am nominated for, I will have to downsize my furniture, my kitchen equipment etc. The property is probably smaller then this cottage, the kitchen is about 2/3 or the size (and no utility or out houses). The sittingroom is more square and there is no diningroom. But it has 3 bedrooms. So DS would not have us all walking through his room. I expect I will not have the luxuary of a large double room as I have now, that fits in so many pieces of furniture. So I will have to be ruthless!.

My thoughts are torn as I do love my cottage. But for the sake of DGD it has 120ft back garden, enclosed and flat. It has a small front garden, but that would probably have to be turned into a parking space, as parking on the road is at a premium and I will no longer have a garage, (or a greenhouse). But plenty of space to have a vegetable plot if I am physically able to have one.

Doesnt sound too good put like that.
However it is opposite the doctors, near the health centre, and not far from the main road, bus route, and the local brackley buzzer route. If/when my health deteriorates thats handy!

I am hoping that I will be able to see a few more positives in the following days as i work out the options.

I am going to ask the council a bit more about it tomorrow, if I get the chance.
I do know that they will be modernising it to council spec, i.e. new kitchen, bathroom, and central heating. (gas).
Its in such a dated/delapitated state, that it will no doubt be plastered and magnolia painted. So I will have a blank canvas. But I am hoping that the O.T. can talk to them, and see if they can install the bannisters, the grab rails etc, and possibly a shower before hand. (As they have to do everything to the house). We will see.
    DGD wants her bed.
    Better go.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

Glad that you had a lovely holiday

Have not posted on your thread for agesssss, but have always read it.

The council house sounds good, blank canvas, and maybe having the OT things installed too.

I know its not easy to downsize, I have done it many times, and yes sometimes I am thinking I wish i still had this, that, and the other, but I am very ruthless now, and I love living without clutter. Do I sometimes wish I still had every thing DD & DS made at playschool? do I 'eck! :D

We live in a tiny bungalow, its 2 bed but the 2nd bedroom is for my OH's DD and she does not accept any of my stuff in her room, she flips if I don't remember to remove the ironing from there (she comes every other weekend) and sometimes I forget! I love making stuff, sewing, crochet, painting & glueing stuff, and our place just aint big enough!

I think you are doing so well with your DGD, it can't be easy, and I hope the new home will work out, although it seems small maybe being nearer to everything will be a bonus, I think Molly would like you to move there :D

    Good luck xx

I have continued to downsize since 2000, not sure we can get into much smaller but obviously I may just have too.
Its the lack of space for dining table, and for sewing that is the biggest problem. But as you say, Blank canvas, new start, bedroom for DS, bus route, and a long garden ideal (when cleared) forDGD.
And 3 minutes from Molly! (As long as she doesnt downsize and move in the near future!).
Missed my weekly meetings with Molly, and they certainly would be easier if I get this house.
Just off to take DGD to the new Playgroup in the village.

    Hi Mooloo,
Glad that you had good hols, sounds like you had a fab time.

Re the house, completely understand your mixed feelings. Would the new place mean less driving for you, if closer to public transport, shops and a nursery/school for DD? Would it be any easier for DS to get to college? is it nearer or further from the girls and your parents?

Also, will having a council house give you more "security of tenure". with a private landlord there is always the chance they will want to sell the house, suddenly put the rent up etc?

Hoep you get things sorted with DS, sorry to hear he has gone AWOL.
  • Welcome home mooloo

decisions, decisions sounds perfect bar the space, only you can decide and dont forget you dont have tro take the councils first offer(well at least here you don't) you must be high on the list for them to offer you something might be worth asking what happens if you refuse it .

Pleased you have had a good time and pleased that BF and DGD have bonded so well .

Got to dash , uni is so busy

    Hi Mooloo,
It would be lovely to be closer to you and DGD but i understand your concerns totally. I make a list when faced with a difficult decision and score each item as a priority such as 10 for bus route as high priority or 1 for jacuzzi as low priority Add them up and the highest one wins.

The Pros - nursery, school, library, shops are a very short drive or walk depending on how you feel, bus is on your doorstep and a very good doctors across the road. There are three bedrooms and distance might be a good or bad thing from the twins! It will be renovated and so will up to standard and have new CH, kitchen, bathroom. There is a lovely garden which needs clearing so that could be a pro or a con.

The Cons - It's small but being in bad repair doesnt give a good impression and it might have more floor space than you imagine. You would need to downsize - that could be painful and difficult but also positive as you have said to me how stressful you find the clutter. The lack of space for dining table/ sewing - we could go to Ike*(we've been talking about it) and suss out their storage solutions and tables that are meant for small spaces. You could get a shed for some storage - sheds are the new in thing for increasing your living space - http://www.ehow.com/how_6761780_make...rage-shed.html.

I guess what Im saying is i understand your concerns and entirely your call as only you know what it right for you and yours...... but wait and see it refurbished because I think it has got potential. Hugs my friend xx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    It certainly should.

Another thing to remember is that there is one thing you absolutely cannot change about a house, and that is its location. The cottage sounds lovely, but its location not so great.

Good post from Molly spelling out some of the pros and cons of the house. It would also be a good idea to sort out the pros and cons of the cottage; I suspect the cons list would be significantly longer than the pros list.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
