Well I have started my spreadsheet. It is going to be some challenge.
I can make it work on the income coming in now, just. But when DS finishes at school and the benefits for him stop, its going to be megga tight?
I just cant see how I am going to manage on £179.60 a fortnight!.??? I know that there are lots of people out there who do, but I think that once my health is on an even keel I must think about what I can do, to work again! Be it for myself or back in the rat race. But I will have to get my health stable first.

Just noticed that you are a newbie on here John, I hope that the place is a good one for you. It has been a big help to me since middle of 2007! It got me through my bankruptcy. Back through work, and through several moves. Through being just DS (Darling Son) and myself, to having to rent a house with 8 of us. To loosing my job through ill health earlier this year!. Its been a rollercoaster of a ride for the last few years.
Dont know what brought you to my thread, but welcome. You will need stamina to put up with it. !!:D

Mooloo for the minute try to stop stressing yourself because it isn't helping your general health and well being! Don't forget the move to the cottage was supposed to help you destress and let you have more time to yourself, which is long overdue!!

You have always done your best for everyone else now try doing the best for yourself!!

Jo4, I am not stressed....yet. Just wanted to make a start on the spreadsheet to see where I stood.
I wish DS would just stay at school for a bit longer until I can get my self back into the work place.

I think the car is a big part of things. I will need to downsize it, but I suppose thats not going to be possible. I could do with an automatic, so my arm didnt have to do so much work.!! Ah well in my dreams I suppose.
Something will come up, it usually does, in the 11th hour!.

  • I guess apprenterships still don't pay very much, but could DS not make up some/all of the difference in house keeping?

    Hi  ,
I am coming out of lurking if you don't mind?
I think the most important thing to do is stay calm.
Remember 50 pence a day is per person and for food only and not too bad once you realise that a pack of something is going to cost a lot more than 50p but once you spread that over the number of meals you will do then that comes down a lot but if you want to start a bit easier you could try a £1 for a month and see how you get on and think whether to change after a month.

The £4000 isn't something I'm involved in but I believe that it excludes rent/mortages and council tax and rates so again maybe not as bad as it seems but the important thing is too work to how much money you have for you and your son to give you a life you are happy with you don't have to do something just because someone else is.

If you want any help with spreadsheet design/formulae feel free to PM me and ask. :)

Good luck to you on your new start.

Well when he gets some money, we will see what he can afford. He does know that he will have to put money in the pot. I am not sure if his apprentiseship is covered by any government subsidies, ? Something we will investigate when we get confirmation of his start. (The way things are going I am not sure it will still happen, what with the economic downturn!)
