  • Hi everyone, and welcome to all those who joined recently :)

Sorry to bump from previously - I'm going to be getting a sum of money in a few weeks and am deciding what to do -

Firstly how would Payplan be with the idea of me offering F & F's to get rid of a couple of creditors part way through a DMP?

And secondly if I decided to use the money instead as a one-off payment to Payplan, but kept a bit back for emergencies, would they find out?

I'd just like to be clearer about this before taking the next step, if anyone has any thoughts/advice I'd be really grateful!

    Thank you kindly! YP x

Ok I'll answer yours and hope someone answers mine!!
Payplan I think would want you to spread your payment prorata between all creditors- the spirit of a DMP is that, so all get a share depending on how much you owe.
If you favour one creditor over another, then the others could quite naturally get narky. However, having said that- I would suggest you consider starting a paying off debts fund and work towards F&FF in total because in the long run it's going to cost much less.
I don't know if that's good legitimate advice but it's what I am doing. Working on the premise that the longer the money is in default, the more creditors are likely to accept an offer, but as I said I am only a year into this, and my experience and understanding is an evolving thing. Payplan don't know what money you have coming in no, but at the end of the day if you want to reach debt free then you have to work a strategy that will help you achieve that, which of course includes making efforts to get the funds together to settle. All the best.

cheesedoffwithdebt - my DMP is with CCCS. A couple of times I have had a small bonus from work which I have used for a F&F settlement with a creditor. Each time I just call CCCS and they redistribute the payments between the remaining creditors. They do not seem to bothered, and accept this as a reasonable way of working. All the other creditors see an increase in payments, and I think as long as payments are payed regularly and keep increasing every year or so, everyone is happy.

  • Hi, I had something similar but the wording was something like 'a representative will call on the .....' can't remember the exact wording but when I first read it it sounded like they where sending someone round as they were ringing daily anyway, But I think they just meant someone was going to ring and they where trying to scare me into paying up by the phrase they used. Whatever they meant no-one turned up.

Does it actually say a person is physically coming to your house?

Thanks for your response. Now I re-read it, it does just say someone will be calling so you may be right. I automatically assumed they were sending someone. I'll ring them later- it will be such a relief if they're not coming round. God, this is all so stressful but I'm trying to remain positive and see the bright side. This forum really helps, it's nice to hear from other people in a similar situation to my own and know that I'm not alone.
  • thanks Ian for my number, it's going to be with me for a long time....... The support on these boards is invaluable, it is so great to see what may/may not happen in the future, definitely what you know about is much less scary

  • Hello again everyone, sorry I didn't sign on last night, I went to bed before my 2 year old did, I was that tired! Thank goodness for understanding husbands :D

CCCS emailed the info to me rather than post it and I got it within half an hour of my telephone appt so I really should crack on with sending the letters out to creditors!

I just have a question please, I have seen that lots of people send token payments out by postal order. Is it not advisable to send a cheque out? I will be sending token payments of £1 to each creditor for this month and then the DMP kicks in for March.

I won't send cheques out from my existing bank account because by the time they cash them it might be closed, but is there any reason not to send them cheques from my new account once that's opened (I've already applied for a Co-op basic account so am just waiting to hear back from them).

It would just be easier to send a cheque than a postal order as with a 2 year old getting to the post office isn't easy.

I have already cancelled the DDs so I expect that I will start receiving calls asking why soon. :o

    Thanks everyone...

  • morning mrs

the co-op cashminder doesn't have a cheque book but it does have online banking and I just did some of mine that way then cancelled the payment instruction once it had left our bank account. I also noted on the letters that I had sent a payment via online banking, everyone got them and accepted them and seems a lot less fiddly than POs and you don't have to sign anything either. Hope this helps

Argh. Additions have twice now charged DH £12 for "repeated attempts to contact you by phone" regarding DH's account. It wouldn't be NEARLY so annoying if we hadn't already advised them by letter THREE TIMES that we do not want contact by phone, but only in writing by post. Surely this can't be right... can they do that?? Or can I insist they refund the charges??

  • Is barclays the same as Barclaycard? I have a debt with barclaycard and Barclays are the only people who can open a bank account for me today with debit faciltities, no overdraft and give me account number and sort code there and then?

    Thanks for your help

    Hi Mrs O!
Once I received my debit card from co-op I was able to set up on-line banking, which was working as soon as the phone call to set it up was over, they send you a dinky card reader thingy in a couple of days so that'd be so much easier than the post office with 2 yr old. Now that really is an :eek:situation!
