  • Hi all, we are in our second month of a DMP with payplan we sent token payments off for the first month & we have just paid payplan this month. I dont think any creditors have agreed yet but the first month we were getting calls & letters we didnt actually pick up to any of them. For the past 3 weeks we have heard nothing besides lloyds offsetting which they didnt tell me about & first direct putting a hold on our old bank account. It makes me nervous that im not eing threatned with action lol. Is this normal? xx

Hi everyone, and welcome to all those who joined recently :)

Sorry to bump from previously - I'm going to be getting a sum of money in a few weeks and am deciding what to do -

Firstly how would Payplan be with the idea of me offering F & F's to get rid of a couple of creditors part way through a DMP?

And secondly if I decided to use the money instead as a one-off payment to Payplan, but kept a bit back for emergencies, would they find out?

I'd just like to be clearer about this before taking the next step, if anyone has any thoughts/advice I'd be really grateful!

    Thank you kindly! YP x

Hi, Yellowpinky, I was wondering what you would do with that money! I agree with the other posters that it would be difficult to pay some of the creditors off without the others knowing. We had difficulties with our car insurance in Jan, with a few phone calls, but luckily we had a "rolling" credit agreement, so the (reduced because of No Claims) payments continue, and we aren't really taking out "new credit", thank goodness. I don't know where we would have found £300 in Jan to pay it as a "one off".

Honestly, if I were you I would have an emergency fund. This week a suspension spring went on our car, and the exhaust is loose, may need replaced!! Luckily OH has some overtime due at the end of Feb, otherwise I would be in "the Horrors". It probably depends how much your money is. If it really doesn't impact the DMP that much then it may be better to have a wee fund in case anything goes wrong. All the Best!

    ttf.

Also, Payplan won't find out that you have anything extra in your bank account if that puts your mind at rest!

Hi Crispycornflake, thanks for your reply! I've taken your advice and opened a cashminder account. I think its safest to stay away from any bank I owe money too - just in case!! I would say to any one though beware of barclays - don't always believe what they say!! I'm going to go into branch next week to see if I can get that money back, I'm also concerned as to where my DMP payments have gone!! Thanks again :-)

    Hi,

It sounds as if they havent transferred your account to their basic cashcard account. I have 2x barclays loan, o/d and barclaycard and my basic account has not had any monies taken out (touch wood).
When I set up my DMP I did go into Barclays and open the basic account rather than letting them do it automatically as I am a bit of a control freak! I proably shouldnt have stayed with them but it just makes life a little easier.

I would definitly speak to the branch and explain the situation and get the basic account asap, if you want to stay with them. Regardsing the monies taken if it is for some priority debt I'm sure you can request it back, but maybe someone can explain this better!

    Hi!!
i also went into branch myself to open the account. They just seem to have kept it running along side the old one, still charging me and not putting any kind of block on the account. I wanted to stay with them also, they've been very good all the years i've been with them. They just don't seem to get it this time!! I've written to them countless times now and they just seem to be ignoring me, I'm going to go into branch next week and speak to some one face to face! My main concern is where my dmp payments have dissapeared too!!
Thanks for your advice - I'll keep you posted!!

First Right of Appropriation - knew I would remember at some point! There is some rules saying that they cant take money if is is set aside for a specific reason. Have a google and see what you find.
It does amaze me how everyone on here is treated so differently by the same creditors. As I said I have not had any issues with Barclays, as soon as my current account defaulted and my wages went into the new account everything has been quite. I do wish they hadnt taken the account from online banking but I just phone up collections every few months to check the balance, it is weird because my loan accounts stayed online, wonders will neven cease.

Hi I'm new to the forum so please bear with me!

I have a DMP with CCCS which I started last March so nearly a year into it. HSBC are the only creditor that have not accepted my DMP Payments and have been adding charges onto the loan so I am now in arrears etc.

Today I have recieved a FINAL DEMAND letter from HSBC asking me to pay them the £4000+ within 18 days.

My main question is what happens next as I obviously can't pay them this amount, has anyone else had any dealings with HSBC and DMP's as 1 year on they are still not playing ball.

Any help or advice greatly appreciated

Hi Susie im not sure if this is of any help but just in case it is,

When this happened to me with the Halifax, i wrote to them saying that it was not possible to pay the amount and that i would continue to pay the monthly payments i could afford through the CCCS.

I also complained to the creditor about their adding interest etc onto the account when others did not.

I kept the letter i sent and also any letters in return.

The debt was later passed on and the interest and charges stopped.

Of course this only happened after a while and was not with HSBC but....

....The point i felt of writing was that it would leave a trail of me keeping in contact and showing willing to pay the debt whilst they are shown to be unreasonable.;)

Hi Funkyfish, we are one month behind you and are sending token payments this month, DMP to start in March.

I just wondered about the First Direct account...we are currently banking with them and have an overdraft of £3000. We are in the process of opening up a new account and can't wait to transfer money into it as I'm petrified of FD catching on about our DMP and freezing our account!

I won't let them know about it officially until our money is safely in the new account. When you say that they put your account on hold...was that once they knew about the DMP? Am really scared about ours being put on hold now and DH's wages being eaten up to pay off the overdraft!
    :(

    Thanks

    mozzyc,

Do you mean that you asked them to pass the account to the debt collectors? I have not had the nerve to do that - just keep telling them I can only pay what is in the DMP.

Yes, it's the only chance i had of getting the interest stopped and of clearing the balance. Otherwise i would of spent the rest of my life just clearing the interest and charges added ie arrears, not the actual balance. Now i know that in 4 years, this debt will be cleared. A few months ago, i was starting to think that it could just go on and on.

  • Heya! we had a nightmare with FD but mainly ours ( and payplans) fault. When we sent out the token payments we were not told to not send a token to FD & at the time we banked with them as our coop account was being set up. After a few days with the constant calls we got an email along the lines of you have 24 hours to pay us or we will freeze your bank account. My hubbie phoned them & they were v nice & they explained that we had to pay them this month or they would off set etc etc. We paid them the minimum payments as standard & then took all of our wages out that was for shopping etc as i was soooo scared they were going to take everything as they 'knew' about payplan. They didnt take any money & to be honest dont quote me but i dont think they are allowed to as we made a payment in full. We moved banks & they only froze the account once they received the letter from payplan with the finacial statement.

You will be fine as FD have no way of finding out about your DMP & you will be paying them in full this month so i wouldnt worry. If it is worrying you though could you withdraw your shopping & living expenses money so at least you have peace of mind?

Good luck with your DMP so far its the best thing we have ever done ( besides have our children obviously :rotfl:)

  • Well after being quiet for a week, I had letters today from two of my creditors. Egg (surprise surprise) to let me know that I am behind with my payments. ir, Really??!!! Never knew that :wall::rotfl:

Then there was one from MBNA (who accepted my DMP earlier this week) telling me that amount I have to pay them to clear my arrears.

I despair, really I do. Phone is still nice and quiet though :T
