Hi everyone, not been on here since before Christmas as I'm having quite a tough time of it all and I just couldnt bear to come on here and face up to it all.

Anyway my DMP started on the 1st Jan this year, in the meantime my DH had his hours cut and lost nearly £800 in wages over an 8 week period (Dec - Jan), so we have had to reduce our monthly amount straight away which I'm sure wont go down well at all with our creditors. I have also been under threat of redundancy for some time now but today looks like being D Day. I am waiting for my boss to come back from his meeting to tell me but it really does not look good at all.

The most distressing part of it all is that I am trying for a baby but if I get made redundant then fall pregnant I wont receive any wage or maternity pay and I dont know how we will cope at all then so we have stopped trying now. I'm not sure what if any benefits I would be entitled to but without a wage from me we wont be able to afford all of our essential bills. I cant afford to wait a year to see if I find another job then become entitled to maternity pay as I'm 39 this year. This would be my 1st baby so its not like I'm being greedy or anything.

Anyway today and the last month have not been good so I decided to come back on here for some TLC.

Has anyone been in a similar position? Has anyone started a DMP then fell pregnant? Or started a DMP then lost their job then got pregnant?

It's like you read my mind! I've just been asking the exact same question. We started trying last year, then put it off. And i'm so so so broody. We've been on a dmp since 2005, and still have got around 4 years left. But have decided, come hell or high water, at the end of this year, we're going for it. Creditors will just have to accept lower payments, coz i can't put this off any longer. I'm also going into later 30's this year.
We don't own our own property, have no savings, but i know we'll get lots of second hand stuff, and after reading a few posts today on the main forum, know that it can be done on any budget. You've just got to know what's important and what's not.

I completely understand how you feel though. I hate putting it off :(

  • Littlesmurf. Glad to see you here finally :)

I have just found out that Egg have accepted my DMP for all three accounts, and, even better, they are freezing interest and charges :j

Still waiting to hear from Marbles (although they have gone quiet so that must be a good sign) and Tesco and Mint (who have requested a copy of my marriage certificate as I never got round to changing my name on these accounts).

I can't believe that I didn't do this years ago. I actually feel good about life again :D

thats great, Capital one have agreed for mine, mbna have been the real problem, even though i never missed payment just didn't pay full amount, they have passed it on to the debt collectors, but they are sorting it direct with payplan :) and i haven't had a phone call since december off them(touch wood). I am living life day to day without credit and its easier than i thought. My car is finished in 3 months so that will give me an extra £96 to pay off the debt monthly. x :)
  • Hi just wondered if anyone could help we are starting doing our own DMP and tesco cc send me a letter with a budget form to send back on the form it asks for the name and account numbers of our other creditors but i dont think i should have to give them this info should i just send them my own copy of budget and forget their form???
My husband and i have finally had our LBM and are ready to deal with our debts!! Not for ourselves but for our beautiful daughter and her little sister who is due to appear May 2010. :o

That's what I would do, I'm not filling out extra forms for everyone (although I am using CCCS so they will have sent their forms out to them).

However I'm quite new to this so I may be wrong!

  • I have now got my DMP set up to start on the 1st March and all my postal orders sent out too my creditors. I have had numerous letter from my creditors over the last couple of months, Smile and HSBC(metropolitan collections) have accepted the repayment amounts, but I have also had a final demand letter from HSBC saying I have missed my repayment due to the delay in my DMP being set up, they are threatening court action or collections, but they will be getting the token payment this month. Paydayuk have been very quiet. Egg keep sending me letters saying I have cancelled my direct debit(they have tried to set it up a couple of times), don't think it has got through to them yet that I am on a DMP. Moneyshop have contacted me saying they have added charges, but the interest they are charging has gone down to 14.99% which is a hell of a lot less than they where charging before. Oakam have sent me a number of letters threatening court action or collections, I have sent them another letter today saying I am starting a DMP:( I just wanted to know if this is pretty standard stuff or if I should be worried. I have to say the waiting is the worst thing, I can't waiting until the 1st when it is set up and I can start living a little again.

    Hi Bailey

Have you had any answers to your question about pregnancy on a dmp?

  • Hi Alfie, We have had a default notice from mint (the credit limit has been exceeded due to their interest and charges) despite them being notified of cccs dmp, natwest cc also slapping on the interest and charges left, right and centre and wanting x amount by yesterday!!! Northern rock have accepted with no issues (yet)!! Next accepted, Abbey sort of accepting, Halifax accepting for 3 months on 1 account but 6 months on another, nationwide cc accepeted but wanted payment earlier than cccs pay it  and won't listen to reason, all the the rest egg, creation, clode finance, great universal, empire, cahoot and citi cc are ignoring us, neither a yay or a nay!!! I don't get it, we contacted them all before we missed any payments, made token payment, arranged a dmp through cccs who have notified them all of their repayment amount, we have spoken to most of them by phone also. If we just decided not to pay I could understand it but we are actually trying to pay the !!!!!!s!!! How is it ever going to work if they won't help us? It just seems such a struggle.

Hi Alfie, we are starting our DMP on 1st March too, with CCCS. Just thought I would let you know as it's good to be in touch with someone going through it at the same time :)

  • I thought I would post another update on us, we have now had all the paperwork through for our new Co-op account and have declined their offer to transfer DDs.

I have already cancelled the DDs to the creditors that are included in the DMP. I will be letting everyone else know our new bank account details asap so that they can update their systems.

We have our debit cards, and as soon as we get the pin numbers I will transfer money over from our old account into the new one. Hopefully we will have the pins by Monday because that's when my last salary payment goes in and I want to get it out of there asap! I am paranoid that the old bank will realise what's going on and freeze our account (as we have a £3000 overdraft with them!).

I'm going to draft letters tonight to all the creditors going into the DMP letting them know that we are sending token payments this month, and as soon as they are ready I will do the £1 bank transfer to each of them and pop the letters in the post...then sit back and wait for the phone calls to start lol.

I can't wait to have everything set up and running, it will be a relief!

  • Well, Sainsburys Visa are playing up yet again! No interest added last month, now the statement reading charges for interest as far back as Nov. 09. When I rang them this evening, they said they have decided to only offer a reduced rate of interest (£39 per month), I'm paying £59 per month on a debt of £3,900. It just seems unfair, whenever all the other card companies have been freezing interest to give us a chance to pay them back. Now it will take over twice as long!!

Just have to take a deep breath and remember that without the other companies we would be really up against it. Makes me even more determined to NEVER give these card "sharks" our money again!!!
