DMP Mutual Support Thread (Part 6)

Hi
Firstly as I've posted on here a couple of times, can I get myself a number?
Secondly, I have a couple of questions please...
I'm at the stage now where the CCCS are going to make offers to all my creditors. I was adviced that HSBC are unliekly to accept and will pass it on to a debt collection agency. Has anyone got experience with this? Secondly, most of these are starting to charge overlimit, fees etc. Can I claim these back and should I do that now before they accept the offers or after (is it even possible to claim once they've accepted the offer?). Am also starting to feel like other people on here, dreading looking at the misseds call on my mobile. This must be harrassment?
Thanks in advance
Hi bobby,
HSBC can be a pain (pretty much like any creditor really), you'll be better off if they do sell the debt on because DCA's usually accept the DMP offers. HSBC took nearly two years to sell my OH's debt on so all the payments were just going on interest, I sent them a letter letting them know how stupid they were being & it seemed to do the trick because they immediately sold the debt on & the DCA accepted the DMP straight away. At least now that debt is decreasing.
You can put in a claim for fees & charges whenever you want, however, unless they accept your argument for financial hardship you are not likely to get anywhere until the test case is resolved (next week is D-Day), even then the banks can challenge any OFT rulings so it could still go on for years yet. It is a good idea to get your claim in as soon as possible though because at least then you're on the list.
As for missed calls they wouldn't count as harassment. If you answer the phone & speak to the creditor, yet they still still continuing ringing you the same day then you'd be able to get them in trouble. However if they only speak to you once every 24 hours it wouldn't be classed as harassment. There are letters around though which you can send asking them to remove your number & they do sometimes work.:j DMP mutual support thread member - 135:j0 -
Hi All,
Basically just after a bit of direction really.
I went through all the preliminary chats with payplan only to be told there was nothing they could do for us until I was either on benefits or had found a new job as we didnt have £100 spare per month to make offers.
I was devastated to be fair as I really thought they would be able to help me, and then I basically got nothing, no advice whatsoever.
Can anyone advise me on how to go about potentially setting up my own dmp with my creditors.
I've got 5 creditors, and the debt roughly totals £12,000. I've got no job, am recently pregnant so getting a new job is going to be difficult, we're soon to be moving and relocating to the other end of the country and living with my sister, for a couple of months and then my parents have kindly offered to buy a house which we will then rent from them.....
Im at a total loss as to what to do......and any help greatly appreciated
Hi CAFCgirl,
Do you own your own property currently?? If not then have you looked in bankruptcy. Obviously if you want to do a DMP then you should go for it even if its a self administered one. However as you owe 12K are unemployed & pregnant (congratulations on that by the way), then maybe bankruptcy would be a better route. At least then in 12 months time you would be starting completely afresh.
This is only a suggestion as I clearly don't know your circumstances such as what line of work you are usually in etc & I certainly wouldn't want to recommend anything that could affect your future employment.:j DMP mutual support thread member - 135:j0 -
Wow. Things have been scary quiet around here since we sent out those letters and £1 payments. The only response we've gotten so far was a text from Additions saying "Your recent payment of £1 will be credited to your December bill. Thank you for shopping at Additions." :rotfl:Not exactly what we were expecting though.
I imagine the letters will begin rolling in soon. We won't be getting any phone calls, as we changed our phone number last month and none of our creditors have it. DH works nights, and while it's all well and good to tell them you don't want them to call, I know from reading on here that many of them continue to do so. And with an infant sleeping during the day, and DH trying to sleep during the day, I can't be dealing with the phone ringing constantly. I think DH has gotten a call or two on his mobile, but it's off during the day, and off at night while he's at work (not allowed to use it at work), so it just ends up with a message, which he reads, then deletes.
We're hoping that we can put aside enough money from selling stuff on ebay and saving little amounts here and there that we can pay off the creditor with the lowest balance in a few months. Then we'll start saving to pay off the next lowest. I know it's frowned on - but that's the only way to get rid of the debts - otherwise they'll just keep going up and up.MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0 -
Hi there, just wondered if you can advise me on something to do with my DMP. Situation is:
1. Payplan DMP starting 25th Nov and offers going out thereafter
2. Token payments made to creditors
3. Letters received back from all creditors acknowledging financial hardship
However, I've started to receive things like "your DD didn't go through", "you owe us loads of money as a minimum payment and we want it immediately", blah blah.
Do I need to do anything, or is this a case of right hand and left hand?
I'm a little worried.

CC - It's normally a case of automated letters (you have cancelled DDs after all), this will settle down after a while... certainly after they receive the first couple of DMP payments anyway.DMP mutual support thread No: 2430

Well, OH and I had to write a letter EACH to Mint today, as they put interest on my a/c as well. Thank goodness again that I kept all the correspondence, esp. in relation to interest charges. Also finally(!) plucked up the courage to write to the local bank. They have stopped charges but put a few on in Oct. After me transferring £158 that we could really have done with!
I'm getting all brave now!! We can't let them away with everything!
Best wishes to all,

Welcome Wayne.
An IVA is normally best if you are not a home owner. Don't ask me why, I think it has something to do with you having to split any profits from selling your house in the future? A bit like a charging order I guess? DO NOT quote me on that though.
I think it's down to the fact that the IVA is a legal requirement to pay the amount specified every month and the creditors HAVE to stop interest and charges! BUT if for some reason you can't pay that amount that month it can cause trouble and I assume if it carries on you could get a Charge on your house (which means IF you sell you have to pay them something)! Whereas DMP is more flexible and if you have a bad month you can pay less but they can't guarantee interest and charges are stopped and also it's until the debt is paid rather than for a set amount of time.
I think that's the reason anyway, but not positive.DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 261Debt at start of DMP (Jan 2009) = 46,147.86 Now = 36,826.98DFD = [STRIKE]Jan 2014[/STRIKE] May 2013 ([strike]60[/strike] [STRIKE]52[/STRIKE] 41 payments to go)NSD:Nov 12/12:jDec 9/10 Jan 5/10Slowly but surely:coffee:0 -
Hi all, nothing to report yet regarding taking over the DMP myself, I paid CCCS as normal on 1st Nov so this months payment will still be made, it'll be the Dec one when it all kicks in.
I'm just going to keep making payments on the same day so as not to rock the boat too much.
Am expecting a bit of flak but hoping not too much, hope I'm not in for a shock:eek:
Still, whatever, I know it's the right thing for me to do at the moment.
Hope everyones doing ok, good luck Northstar with your drive to cut costs, and the post about scraping the car windscreen made me laugh out loud:rotfl:

Hi all, I'm new on her so don't really know what I'm doin yet!!!
I'm here for a bit of moral support really, Just set up my DMP, sent the letters out to creditors and now waiting to hear from cccs. Hopefully first payment will go on the 1st Dec.
I'm so nervous about it all I just hope I've done the right thing! My OH doesn't know anything about it and I'm a nervous wreck but I know I've got to do something about it. I'm dreading the phone calls but will just have to ride the storm!! I'm hoping you can all help me along the way, I've felt so much better just reading this thread so want to say thanx everyone and good luck)
