Hi Broke!
when you see the proliferation of debt management companies in the UK I reckon there are loads...I only discovered CCCS on here as I was about to go with a private company...ditched them before I signed thank goodness:D
all the best!
I started looking at Ernst & Pain and a few others....soon saw it wasn't the way to go.0 -
Hi All,
Basically just after a bit of direction really.
I went through all the preliminary chats with payplan only to be told there was nothing they could do for us until I was either on benefits or had found a new job as we didnt have £100 spare per month to make offers.
I was devastated to be fair as I really thought they would be able to help me, and then I basically got nothing, no advice whatsoever.
Can anyone advise me on how to go about potentially setting up my own dmp with my creditors.
I've got 5 creditors, and the debt roughly totals £12,000. I've got no job, am recently pregnant so getting a new job is going to be difficult, we're soon to be moving and relocating to the other end of the country and living with my sister, for a couple of months and then my parents have kindly offered to buy a house which we will then rent from them.....
Im at a total loss as to what to do......and any help greatly appreciated
Hi CAFCgirl,
Check out the National Debtline website. If you want to do a DIY DMP then that has all the resources, advice and all the template letters you will need. Just make sure you do get the charity website and not some other dodgy private company.
Everything is on their website, the only thing you won't have is the back up and support but really you could get that from here. Good luck! :T0 -
Phew!! Lovely to be back reading posts, just worked about 38 hours in 3 days so I was dying to get back on here to catch up with everyone!
Right, scraping the windscreen with the credit card? LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!!
:rotfl:
LMS!!!! Great news about your interview, remember PMA, PMA, PMA ALL THE WAY!
Go girl!!!! Every little bit will help and its great too because you have childcare sorted and best of all it's free! Good for you!! I have everything crossed for you hun!
Warm welcome to new members :hello:, good to hear that there are some more acceptances coming through too, all seems to be ticking along nicely.
With me though it is looking more and more like a 1 Jan start.....my council are taking their time with their decision about my council tax payment (long story), but the CCCS need it to work out our monthly DMP figure zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Now that I am off tomorrow I will give the council a ring again to see if there is anything they can give me on the phone (apart from a headache)
then there is the worry again about OHs self employment and the work drying up again before Christmas.
Got to stay positive......no phone calls, no texts and no letters in about 7 days now........which is something.....not sure if I should be worried or relieved!!!

Hi Northstar! Long time no see! I'm in the same boat about the phone calls etc drying up, on one hand I'm relieved on the other it still makes you nervous! Dunno whether I'm coming or going half the time! I will go into my interview with a major PMA, I think a lot of it is just about appearing confident. I must try not to go into it worrying about how much it would help our debt as then I will get all nervous and that isn't good. PMA all the way!!!! :T
How's your Mum doing now?
Christmas is a big worry for me, I don't have anything saved up for it and because of the DMP there's very little room for extra on our budget - so I have no idea where my kids presents are coming from! I already don't buy for family, so can't cut that out. I just tell myself even if they only get one or two things each they will still get heaps from my parents and extended family - and mummy will be generally happier for not worrying what bills I haven't paid this month - so that's the best present of all I suppose. This month on our DMP was the first month in a long time we didn't bounce any DDs and we had £64 spare at the end of the month! (Our month runs 15th to 15th - as that's payday). Usually the last week I can barely afford food, so it felt great.
My goodness I don't half rabbit on! Sorry.I'm 26, been with my OH for 8 years - we have 3 beautiful daughters and no debt collector can ever touch our family.LBM: 03/10/09 Unsecured Debts: 69K  DMP Start Date 01/11/2009.0 -

Hahahaha you rabbit away.....I know I can talk for England!
Thanks so much for asking about my mum, she's doing great, the docs are sure they took out all the cancerous tumour, they want to check her once a month for 6 months and then 3 monthly and then 6 monthly for 5 years I think. She's much more positive now, it was quite hard when we first heard because she just kept saying 'what if I dont wake up after the op', what if this, what if that......it was hard!
So it's all positive news!
As for Christmas, got the same here, dreading it but luckily I have no other family here apart from my mum, 2 brothers and a few cousins so I dont need to buy for them. My brothers and my mum have been great and they have my girls' wish list, I know they will get them lots of bits. They are very lucky girls.
We also have nothing left after everything has been paid. We will in Feb because our mortgage switches to the variable.......but we are going to throw all of that into our DMP. If OH's self employed work picks up after Christmas then we may be lucky enough to get a bottle of wine for the weekend!...Dare I say it.....maybe even a takeaway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's see eh. I have cut right down on so much and that is helping......it's just that at Christmas Im like a child and like to do the whole panto/ice skating/extra nibbles etc and lots of little bits and pieces for them to open. I have my eyes open for deals on the nibbles etc and if anyone invites us to dinner over the Christmas/New Year period I will of course be accepting!
Look who is rabbiting on now
Let us know how it goes with your interview! Good Luck!

Just a short update from me. I started the DMP on 1st September. I still haven't heard back from Egg Card or Littlewoods. I phone CCCS on Tuesday and they haven't heard from Egg either. They suggested I phoned them but as I had to take my phone number off the web site to stop the groundhog day conversation I was having, I decided against that. So instead I wrote to both, also to M&S as although they have accepted they are still charging interest on one account. Fingers crossed for a positive answer!
On the plus side, the budget is evening out, and I still have some money in my account. The grocery challenge is helping focus the mind a lot, so if anyone is struggling, I recommend having a look at that thread. 6 months ago, the only way I would be feeling so relaxed about my bank balance was if I had 'forgotten' to pay someone. Also I counted 'money in my account' as not using up my overdraft! Some of what's left is my allowances for annual bills like car costs and dentists, so I'm resisting the urge to rush out and spend it.:) Anything left at the month end I will transfer to my savings account.
For Christmas, we will be fairly frugal, I have already said 'no big presents' and everyone is fine with that. I have also been selling a lot on e-Bay and Amazon, so will be using some of that money. For anyone looking for treats, its worth checking out Lidl or Aldi and they have loads of that sort of food, and not too expensive. My nearest is over 5 miles away, but its usually worth the trip.
Have a good day everyone!LBM July 2009DMP Start 1 September 2009DMP Support Number 3350 -

Hi Pinkpower,
Thank you for the tips about the grocery challenge thread and Lidl/Aldi, have no Aldi but loads of Lidls around.....I really really need to get our food shopping bill down and I have had a bit of success but I know I could do much more.
The 'Saving Pennies' thread has been useful, I read through all 170 odd pages in about 3 weeks and picked up about 5 or 6 good tips that I wouldnt have thought of so that one is good.
Hope you get those positive answers.

Hi
Firstly as I've posted on here a couple of times, can I get myself a number?
Secondly, I have a couple of questions please...
I'm at the stage now where the CCCS are going to make offers to all my creditors. I was adviced that HSBC are unliekly to accept and will pass it on to a debt collection agency. Has anyone got experience with this? Secondly, most of these are starting to charge overlimit, fees etc. Can I claim these back and should I do that now before they accept the offers or after (is it even possible to claim once they've accepted the offer?). Am also starting to feel like other people on here, dreading looking at the misseds call on my mobile. This must be harrassment?
Thanks in advance0
