  • Hello to All,

I haven't written anything for ages - since my computer broke down last year (can't afford a new one I'm afraid) but everything seems to be going well with my DMP (started April 2008 - still a few good years to go...).
Yesterday I spoke to the rudest idiot from CapQuest - some debt collection company trying to convince me that they sent me loads of letters (which I never received), looks like they bought a debt from Abbey although the figure they gave me doesn't sound right. How do these companies employ people - they always seem to be rude or idiots ??? Thank God for Payplan - they are so helpful.

  • Hi All,

I am currently handling my creditors personally, however I admit I am begining to struggle.

I am wanting to find a company who can help, anyone who can offer advice on who to contact or has had experience with that is efficient and understanding I would be very grateful.

From Someone who feels is loosing control.

Hi, we went with Payplan as they were recommended to us and they have been great. They have managed to stop interest and charges on 4 of our accounts so far and we've only been with them a month. Learned today on Justabank website that 4 more creditors have accepted DMP so hopefully they will reduce interest etc. to give us a chance to pay it all back.
Good Luck with whoever you decide to go with, it's much better than doing it alone:T

  • I was a bit unsure as to whether to post in here or not. It's kinda the second step in facing up to debts and opening my eyes properly.

To give you a very brief rundown, when I got married my wife had a fair amount of debt which consisted of very high interest store cards, CC's etc. At the time of getting married three years ago, I was in a very good credit position, and managed to get a loan with just 5.9% interest for £13k. I paid this off in September of this year. Woopeee! The remaining debt we had, from overdrafts and CC's etc amounted to what I thought was about £3k each. However, my OH finally confessed to me that she had been using credit cards since we had got married, only ever paid minimum payments, and the amount of debt, including overdrafts as of the beginning of this month stood at over £21k!!

I am so so pleased I know of this forum as it led me to the CCCS who suggested a DMP. I am now in the process of setting this up.

I feel so sad that I let things get as bad as they are, as I never really kept tabs on finances (I am self employed, so monthly income varies considerably month to month which makes it hard to budget.) However, getting in touch with CCCS opened our eyes big time and we spent the evening cutting up every credit card we had (we still had £7k of available credit on them) and vowing never, ever, to get debt again. So at least I know that by the time I am in my early 30's, I will be debt free. I guess now the only way is up.

Last week I sold my PS3, Plasma TV, and Home Entertainment System. Sad to see it go, but it's put some money in the bank that will pay for food shopping right through winter. We've also drastically reduced our weekly spend by cutting down the grocery bills (from £50 per week to £30) and by making use of my van, which is far more economical than the car, as much as possible.

I've disconnected my landline, and had the good sense never to give my mobile number to any creditors or banks so at least they can't harass us other than by post of course.

There you go - I've admitted it all now. This is kinda like standing up at an AA meeting. 'My name is drpellypo, and I am facing up to my debt'

At the start of a long path, but at least I'm on a path to somewhere!

Welcome to the Club!! This forum has helped me so much when I was nearly out of my mind worrying about 61k (now 67k thanks to interest) worth of debt. It sounds as if you are facing up to it all before it goes totally pear shaped. Things can only get better now when you know exactly what you have to live on. Keep posting and all the very best

You should be saying that you are proud to be dealing with your debt and I am sure your wife feels like a big weight has been lifted off her shoulders. Good luck with the CCCS, terrific company. This forum, and particularly this thread, got me through some of the loneliest, hardest financial times and I could not have done it without them. The journey will be tough and maybe a little slow to begin with, but nothing will ever feel as bad as your "lightbulb moment".

I wish you a fresh start.

Thanks. I'm waiting on my oldest daughter coming in from her halloween disco, then off to bed with a cuppa and a DVD. A little quiet time!
