  • well done you. I have received a refund of £350 towards one of my Halifax loans which they have just credited it to my account - have been on my DMP for 7 months now and just about to set up a Trust Deed so happy this will be for 3 yrs. Then I will be debt free for unsecured. Its been a long haul but eventually feel like I am getting somewhere, thanks to everyone on here for their support and gr8 advice. x

I had a lovely surprise this morning when I logged onto my Barclays bank account. I generally check my account every day now to make sure all direct debits & visa debit card payments have gone through as they are supposed to & also just to make sure I know exactly where I am.

Anyway after logging on this morning my balance had suddenly jumped from next to nothing to over £1260. MBNA have finally refunded my mis-sold PPC from my personal loan back in 2002, to the tune of £1257.53. Thats made up as follows:- the original amount of £762.34 + interest at 8% £295.19 + goodwill gesture £200.

It's taken nearly a year of fighting them both myself & the ombudsman but well worth it in the end. It's funny though because they haven't even sent a letter out confirming the refund, they just put it into my bank. I think they're sore losers.

I have another PPI claim ongoing against Norton finance but I won't get into that as this is a DMP thread not a PPI one. I'm just so happy right now, I can start buying Christmas presents. :snow_laug _party_

Thats brilliant news!! You help so many people on here so maybe it's true that what goes round comes round. Enjoy your lovely lolly!!

Wonderful! We know from your posts that this has been a hard fought and long battle for you, so great news. Your advice to others is always so comprehensive, informative and reasoned so it's lovely to hear you've won this battle.
(PS- Don't go too mad - remember the 3 for 2 offers on the pressies!)
  • Hi!

Just wondered if anyone here opened a new bank account (basic one - no OD no cheque etc) with HSBC? Do you have to go into the branch and show ID to open it? I want to open a new one with them but there isn't an HSBC near me, won't be any point if you have to go in! I'll have to choose one nearer if you need to go in. I'm not sure of other banks that are good bad credit accounts though, and there are only an RBS and a Lloyds near me...
I'm 26, been with my OH for 8 years - we have 3 beautiful daughters and no debt collector can ever touch our family.
LBM: 03/10/09 Unsecured Debts: 69K  DMP Start Date 01/11/2009.
  • Wee bit of good news this morning (it must be catching!)
OH's MBNA credit card - theyv'e written to say they are ok with DMP and interest now 0%. Every penny will now be paid of 8k debt! It's made my day.

    Hi LittleMissSkint
Not totally sure about HSBC but probably would need to I think.Depending on your debts though....have you tried Co op cashminder account? I easily opened an account on the phone and they also gave me a savings and you definitely dont need to go in to their branches. You can use the post office to pay in so maybe you have one by you and you get a visa debit card too. I was surprised how easy it was.
    Good luck with it

That's great news, no wonder you're pleased!
I'm still struggling with one creditor banging on 24% each month + £12-00 default charge + charge for being over credit limit! (And whose fault would that be then???) Trying my very best but its making a complete mockery of my DMP. Like many others before me you can only shake your head and wonder at the rhyme and reason of creditors reactions
Good luck with your DMP - keep plugging on and you'll soon see that total start to go down :j

BTW - Thanks to everyone for your good wishes - my slipped disc is gradually slipping back where it should be so it's back to work next week!

Quick update on our dmp. Started payments to payplan on 24th September for 19k of debt over 14 years. No-one has formally accepted so far but most of the phone calls have stopped, except for barclaycard who have been pretty incessant (10 plus calls a day).

They have now passed the calls on to Mercers, who I gather are pretty ferocious. DMP is in OH's name but when they ask to speak to him I say no, as he has a stress related condition and these phone calls make it worse and to put everything in writing. The phonepigs just re-iterate that they HAVE to speak to him, and that it is very important. I reply that they don't HAVE to speak to him, they just have to COMMUNICATE with him and that can be done very easily in writing. Lo and behold we actually got a letter yesterday and no phone calls since (tho maybe just because it is the weekend). Ironically on the back of the letter it gave payplans number in case of financial difficulties.

So I plan to fire off the next round of letters just re-iterating that we are now on payplan and giving the payplan ref number, just in case the first round didn't hit home. Some creditors haven't acknowledged what is going on at all, just sending out bills as normal without any default warnings or anything (Littlewoods).

In the meantime there are loads of repairs to be done and no money to do it. Having first taste of a finite income this month lol - got £10 to last us till friday, but a full freezer and had a very social month with lots of family visits. Luckily had two comp wins which should net me £400 when I sell them on in the next couple of weeks so those came along at the right time!

Any expereinces of mercers would be great!
2015 wins: Jan: Leeds Castle tickets; Feb: Kindle Fire, Years supply Ricola March: £50 Sports Direct voucher April: DSLR camera June: £500 Bingo July: £50 co-op voucher

    Hi JoJoB,

I haven't had any dealings with Mercers myself but I have come across them quite a bit when I was fighting Weightmans. It seems they use the automated dial up system (which banks generally use) so it's entirely possible the calls have stopped just for the weekend & will start again shortly (sorry for that). Unfortunately the automated calls themselves aren't classed as harassment, it only becomes harassment when you you actually answer the calls & speak to them & yet they continue to phone, the problem you have is that your OH isn't speaking to them so they are allowed to continue the calls. The other thing about Mercers is that they tend to like threatening people with doorstep collectors, if that should happen fire off a letter telling them they don't have permission to set foot on your property & should they do so you'll be onto the police for aggrevated trespass. On the plus side I'm yet to hear of them actually ever sending a doorstep collector, so it appears to be nothing more than hot air, send the letter all the same though should they make any threats, just to cover yourself.

I believe when they get it through their thick heads that you won't bow down to them they'll sell the debt on, usually to Cabot. I actually didn't have too many problems with Cabot myself, but I know they can be a problem. Anyway, thats much further down the line.
