Evening all, well DMP ticking along OK, all quiet. Out of the 9 creditors 8 have stopped charging and accepted the reduced payment. But Egg are still charging interest AND late payment fee AND over the limit fee (for 2 cards), so I pay them £110 a month but they charge me about £500 a month!!!:mad:
They defaulted me on 4th Oct so I thought that would be the end of the charges but no, the statement was due over the w/e and there are all the usual charges.
Is there anything I can do? Phone and beg? Write a pathetic letter? Send them a pint of blood and my children's pocket money??
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
Thanks0 -

Hi Geoffmr1, thats what I am amazed about is the letter that says they will stop all the charges! I take it they don't continue to send statements after you start a DMP.
My debt with them was a personal loan so that may be different for you. They haven't sent me any statements since I've been on the DMP although I did receive a piece of paper this morning which is nothing like the previous statements I've received, it states I still owe £197 (shows they haven't a clue what they're doing really). They also enclosed a leaflet which says that new rules under the consumer credit act mean that creditors have to send out a yearly statement to customers/clients etc, so any of them that don't are again breaking the rules.
I'm really pleased you have it in writing because at least that means they cannot give you any nasty surprises like they have me. Make sure you guard that letter with your life!! :rotfl::j DMP mutual support thread member - 135:j0 -

We wont be upping ours by much at the moment though, once we can change tariff on our 24month o2 contract that will be an extra £20, then we need to change our Mortgage assurance and critical life cover which will be another £30ish pounds, and then DH can earn good overtime but its not definite each month, so we plan to put some aside for emergencies in the next coming months and then out the rest into the DMP.
I have some news, CCCS sent out all their letters etc to creditors last week and the 1st one I heard from was MBNA, who were a real pain a few months ago when I contacted them, so much so the person on the phone had me in tears and I asked to speak to his manager! Anyway they've accepted DMP and stopped interest, charges etc I am absolutely amazed :T. But then the next letter was for DH from MBNA (sent the same day, who owes MBNA £1K where I owe them 5K) saying if you do not contact us in 7days we will send this onto our solictors to start CCJ proceedings! MAD, MAD & MAD! ANyway I spoke to cccs to ask whether we should contact MBNA to explain DMP, but was advised to leave it as it can take a bit of time fr everything to filter through and different depts dont always talk to each other. DH has gone to work in foul mood, I wonder if he would be better talking to mbna anyway, just to put his mind at rest that he has informed them and not ignored the letter, as long as he is strong enough not to give in and pay them any extra.
What do you think?
Sorry for the ramble, but I still feel quite excited that at least one company and the one I never expected to have stopped charges!
Hope everyone else is ok. TF
Hi,
I'm glad MBNA froze charges/interest for you. I think letters corss a lot in the mail, it is likely the departments just aren't communicating with each other. Just thought I'd add that I have an MBNA CC and I missed two payments before I spoke to them saying I couldn't afford the minimum anymore. I e-mailed them an income/expenditure and straight away they froze interest and charges. So they are not always bad! I don't how they'll be about my DMP, as it is only starting on Nov 1st, and I know they will get less than the £139 they've been getting, but tough. At least interest etc is already frozen. :beer:I'm 26, been with my OH for 8 years - we have 3 beautiful daughters and no debt collector can ever touch our family.LBM: 03/10/09 Unsecured Debts: 69K  DMP Start Date 01/11/2009.0 -
I spoke to Sainsburys Visa!! and well, it was ok really... Got a very polite chap and explained Payplan, etc, and they hadn't received an income/expenditure form for us, so our a/c was sent back to collections. Once I gave him PP's phone no and our a/c details that was it. He didn't even ask me for any money!! They are stopping the calls for ten days while it's being sorted out so it just goes to show I've been hiding from the call all these days for, well, nothing. Am complete muppet.:j:hello::hello::jDMP mutual support thread member 3480

Aww good! Doesn't it feel great when something you have been dreading turns out to be not so bad! Hopefully PP will deal with it all now. :TI'm 26, been with my OH for 8 years - we have 3 beautiful daughters and no debt collector can ever touch our family.LBM: 03/10/09 Unsecured Debts: 69K  DMP Start Date 01/11/2009.0 -
Hi Suze72,
They cannot get a charging order until they have successfully gained a CCJ & forthwith judgement (forthwith judgement means that they are trying to reclaim all the money in one lump sum). If you have no grounds to fight the CCJ then that is all be done via post.
A charging order can be done by post but in all honesty its pretty essential to go to court if it ever gets to that stage. You would need to speak to the Judge on the day to get certain conditions put in such as interest is stopped, that they accept your DMP payment until the debt is paid & also that there will not try to get a forced order of sale. If you're just accepting of the charge (which I wouldn't recommend but its each to their own) then it's possible you could get them to agree those terms themselves & put it in writing, you would just need to forward a copy to the court (incase they accidentally forget......amazing how often that happens) & that would then all be concluded by post.
Thanks Geoff, that doesn't sound too bad really, and I'm completely speculating anyway - as I say I haven't heard from them since they were informed of the DMP. I was concerned about having to physically go to court as one of my clients works there! But I'll worry about that if and when it comes to it.Debt free Olympic Contender # 134DMP Mutual Support Thread member # 250DMP March 2010 [STRIKE]£9786 [/STRIKE] now £9900 -
Out of interest here, what kind of figures are people paying back to their debtors every month on their DMP's ?
We were looking at the board posts, and working out our monthly figures and we were wondering, out of interest, given everyones monthly outgoings, how much "spare cash" goes towards yoru DMP aevery month ??
We currently pay £627.34 a month to Payplan to be divided between all our creditors.
We are only paying £335 per month at the moment but hope to increase it soon.Debt free Olympic Contender # 134DMP Mutual Support Thread member # 250DMP March 2010 [STRIKE]£9786 [/STRIKE] now £9900 -
Good morning everyone!
Just popped in with a little question that sprang into my mind at 3am! I opened a new basic bank account with NatWest online, just waiting on the form coming through to sign and that'll be that done, after that will just be waiting on cards etc coming through. Anyway I want to switch the Mortgage DD etc and OHs Wages etc to the new account before his next pay day so there's no chance of Nationwide taking all our pennies - does anyone know how much notice you need to give your employer to pay your wages into a new account? He is due to paid on the 13th (random I know but that's his paydate) so I'm nervous the account wont all be ready to go by then or that his employer won't have time to update his details. Also how quick do they switch DDs? The mortgage DD will be due out on the 17th, so I'd need to be sure that was coming from where the wages are! Sorry if that seems complicatedI'm 26, been with my OH for 8 years - we have 3 beautiful daughters and no debt collector can ever touch our family.LBM: 03/10/09 Unsecured Debts: 69K  DMP Start Date 01/11/2009.0 -

Hi LittleMiss
I too opened a Natwest online account at the start of my DMP. They were really helpful and the Direct Debits were transferred over in around 2 weeks.
Regarding the employers wages. Each employer will do things differently, but it should simply be a case of the admin people changing the BACS payment to the new account and should only take 5 minutes! I suggest that your OH gets on to that ASAP and asks them to make sure it's through in time for the next payroll.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for this, maybe it would be quicker if we just wrote to the people we have DDs with and informed them of new bank details (once we have them). That way there's no delays? I'm so paranoid :rotfl:
As soon as we get our new acc no and sort code through (don't know when that will be with the strikes) I will get him to tell payroll dept and ask them to confirm it will be done by his next wage, I always need confirmation like a zillion times over :rotfl:I'm 26, been with my OH for 8 years - we have 3 beautiful daughters and no debt collector can ever touch our family.LBM: 03/10/09 Unsecured Debts: 69K  DMP Start Date 01/11/2009.0
