Thanks geoff, that is really useful info. I will get OH to answer phone when he is in a bolshy mood then, so after that it will count as harrassment and I can fire a letter off. So Cabot is next in line then? :D

  • Hi!

Just wondered if anyone here opened a new bank account (basic one - no OD no cheque etc) with HSBC? Do you have to go into the branch and show ID to open it? I want to open a new one with them but there isn't an HSBC near me, won't be any point if you have to go in! I'll have to choose one nearer if you need to go in. I'm not sure of other banks that are good bad credit accounts though, and there are only an RBS and a Lloyds near me...

We had to open a new a/c because our local bank is owned by RBS, who are one of our creditors. We went with Nationwide. I opened the a/c online and have a visa debit card (handy if OH travels for work) and cheque book. It was all straightforward enough and I don't even have a branch near me.
    Hope this helps.

    No problem JoJoB.

Just make sure when he speaks to them that he states in no uncertain terms that the phonecalls are making him ill & that he will only accept correspondence in writing (tell him to say as little as possible & no matter how awful they are to make sure he doesn't lose his temper). The reason I say that is because these firms do record all calls & should it ever go to court (thats not said to worry you & is extremely unlikely) then they'll bring up every word thats ever been said to them if its likely to go in their favour (I found that out to my own cost, because I lost my temper on the phone & then the Judge wouldn't believe their calls were making me ill).

Just tell him keep the call brief, give no details of finances, tell them they are making him ill with stress & that the calls are pushing him over the edge, that he will only accept correspondence in writing & that he is now putting the phone down. Their job is to push him into saying something he'll regret, it's all like a big game when you sit back & look at it (I know it never feels like that though). May seem stupid but write down what he needs to say & keep to the script.

So many people have had problems with Cabot, but I never actually had any myself. They accepted my DMP straight away for a year, even though it was a very low amount £25 on £15900. The only problem I ever had with them was getting a refund for overpayments made on my account, I did eventually get it back a couple of months later.

  • One of our debts is with barclays OH, i have all this to look forward to, I hope they dont hassle us to much but thanks for your advice geoff i will remember that for phone calls. Im hoping to hear from payplan monday tuesday see if they have contacted any of our creditors to start up our plan.
I am a Travel Agent My Abta number is D0238. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Travel Agent, so you need to take my word for it but Atol numbers can be checked on the caa website. This signature is here as I follow MSE's Travel Agent Code of Conduct.
  • Geoff really pleased to read of your ppi win, well done :T

I'm still waiting to hear from MBNA and Barclaycard for OH, both have been with the Ombudsman a good few months now but it's a very frustrating waiting game. I just want our money back or the credit on the account so we finally have a true figure of how much debt we actually owed.

Our debt at the start of our dmp just over year ago was 53k! It's is now standing at £40k but I reckon we really owe about 33-ish. Still massive but the 53k was made up of ppi and charges. I'm so grateful to all the people on this site for giving me the push to start fighting back.

Lloyds haven't responded with an offer yet, despite it going through the Ombudsman, they have up to 12 weeks from August and I know they will respond in the bloody 12th week! I hate Lloyds, they're so god damn arrogant with their letters. I visualise their staff smirking as they type

But I want my money and see my loan decrease but getting that apologetic letter is the best feeling in the world of debt! Knowing they owed you, you caught them out and now they are paying you back! :D

Good luck to all those still fighting on with ppi and claims for charges etc. We'll get them in the end ;)

Thanks for this, unfortunately it is Nationwide I am changing from! I managed to open an account (basic) with NatWest, they let you send ID through the mail if they need it. Just waiting to get the paperwork through and shift all our cash before DMP starts. Not sure how long things will take with this mail strike though.
I'm 26, been with my OH for 8 years - we have 3 beautiful daughters and no debt collector can ever touch our family.

  • After my good news yesterday morning I was out all day and Sainsburys Visa have been calling me all day yesterday and also today! Ignored the phone and they've left loads of msgs. I am worried because it was the card I used up to about July.
There's no way I can pay them any more money as started DMP in the longest month ever and reading everyone on here I know thats the worst thing to do anyway!! I had hoped it might all have calmed down a bit by now...

Don't worry toothfairy it will quieten down soon. It may take a couple more months till they realise that you won't succumb to the pressure they pile on you but in the meantime stick to your guns.
For us it took about 3 months for our main creditor to stop phoning, during which time they continued to add interest and charges. At this point I wrote to them again reiterating the fact that we were on DMP and appealing for them to stop charges. About a week later they passed the debt to their collections dept who have agreed to DMP payments and we haven't heard a peep since - it seems that on the whole they do give up once they realise you won't give in to them.

Does anyone know the process of having a charging order put on your house, as in do you have to go to court yourself or is it a paper exercise?

I'm just worrying over all the possible consequences of this Lloyds TSB overdraft which has been passed to a solicitor.
I emailed them to tell them that it had been added to our DMP and that CCCS would be in touch but have had no reply yet.

Congratulations everyone on your recent succesful claims :j

Out of interest here, what kind of figures are people paying back to their debtors every month on their DMP's ?

We were looking at the board posts, and working out our monthly figures and we were wondering, out of interest, given everyones monthly outgoings, how much "spare cash" goes towards yoru DMP aevery month ??

We currently pay £627.34 a month to Payplan to be divided between all our creditors.
