not sure i agree totally with that, since leaving no feedback and opening a NPB dispute are not forms of feedback.

The emergence of "feedback blackmail" only goes to show that buyers are equally guilty of abusing the feedback system as sellers were with the "revenge neg" and so i don't see the logic in removing a sellers right to leave feedback and i don't see how the feedback system retains much credibility anymore.
I disagree. Percy hit the nail on the head.

Buyers either pay or don't pay. A NPB strike is a substitute for FB.

I agree that after the item is sent, the buyer can be an idiot, which is why it's so important to describe accurately so there are no unpleasant surprises.

You're right, feedback isn't AS credible, especially with people who only buy, but it's incredibly useful if you're looking at which seller to buy from.

And buying is the main risk on ebay so feedback is to guide people buying much more than people selling.

As much as a NPB isn't a negative, they get a few and they are banned which is enougth for me.

I say this becuase I know of 2 transactions in my earlier ebay days where I didn't leave a neg because I would have got one back despite paying quickly etc. Where now I know I can leave honest feedback and my feedback won't be hit back in revenge, being a buyer and seller I take pride in my 100% feedback and now I know they only way I can ruin that is a bad sale, with all the will in the world I may get a neg one day, but the few problems people have had with items of mine I have sorted in a friendly and quick manner.

Just think about it with the old system how negs where never left due to knowing you will get one back.

Shame is this system can also be abused, much like the last, but it has forced some sellers to get there act together.

Feedback has always been abused, and always will.
It's not even a credible resource for vetting sellers any more. If somebody had 200 negs in the last 6 months would you buy from them?

But what if they had 20,000 positive in the same period?

When purchasing, do you look at the %, or analyse the feedbakc as a seller/feedback as a buyer? The % can be easily manipulated by buying cheap items from international sites just to collect positives as a buyer and dilute negs received as a seller.

    The system is a farce.

Biggest giveaway is the sellers response to feedback.
Sarcasm, shouting, I'll walk away, if they can't respond properly the buyer was probably right. They'll be the same with me if there's a problem.
Same the other way though, if it's a problem buyer they'll have neg'ed everyone, not just this seller.
The other system was ok, you could check the date, if the buyer left tit for tat feedback, the date gave it away, and I avoided them entirely. New system is much better now having said that.

As a buyer I do look at feedback in a few ways, if 100% then no worries, if there is negatives then I have a quick look to what they are for, 1 neg in a sea of positives just strikes me as a 'can't please them all' thing.

It comes down to common sense when looking at feedback, how you read it is down to you.

Basically it comes down to if in doubt just don't bid/buy it.

This is a very specific situation you have described.

The majority of people I buy off are private sellers.

I read all their negative feedback. If it's the odd unfortunate event and it's a low cost item, I might risk it.

If there's a few "item poorly described" or "item reeked of smoke" then I might move on.

Only fools read the % and feel satisfied. That's why ebay put the whole lot online for all to see, warts and all. If you can read feedback intelligently then it's not a farce, it's incredibly useful.

Sorry, am I missing something or is this dino-princess-char that you are all slagging off the ebayer with 99.7% positive feedback, only 2 negs in 12 months and only, as far as I can see and I went back a bit, left a very few deserved negs herself?

99.7% maybe - but read through some of the "positive" comments from sellers...

She left frickin loads of negs. All very similar too, rude and personal. Sounds like a nightmare buyer!
