Fed all of mine as soon as they were born, remember one MW saying I had to wait until she helped me, my answer was that I'd do what I liked!

    good for you!

The interesting thing is that babies are very alert in the first hour and will root for your nipple if put anywhere near it, so they don;t tend to need help from what I've been told by the MW who did our BF class.

Feeding also helps contract your uterus and get the placenta out so IMO it's a win-win situation!

Thanks Skinty, it's great to hear about this stuff. I've read a bit about skin to skin, probably because you or someone else on here posted the kangaroo website. I hadn't heard about BF straight after birth - if you have a useful link for that I would really appreciate it. Going to read a few links about delayed cord cutting now while the boss isn't looking!

I just think it's what they need to do straight away and from my point of view it's the ultimate in bonding and I am desperate to latch them on asap as I have been waiting for that moment for 9mths.

  • OH MY GOD OH MY GOD

I sent a 'moment i told him' story into Prima Baby back in February and never expected to hear anything. I just got an email saying they would like to use it in the August edition (out July!) and I have won one of those babyblooms bouquets which is bodysuits etc instead of flowers.

    I AM SO EXCITED!!

Although Edgar was harder to get out because he was bigger and I had to squeeze my water's I felt much 'happier' with it as I knew what I was feeling and to just go with what my body was telling me (which I know to some will sound a bit hippy-ish but it's true!) Edgar was delivered straight onto my chest and fed within minutes - he was rooting as soon as he was on me and I was pushing the placenta out while he was feeding it was mad that as he slowed with feeding my contractions slowed for the placenta.
The very best is sometimes what nature gives us for free.
