Tia - I had not heard of these things you speak of - sick, nappies, wriggling, shopping in ASDA. Babies are just cute bundles of joy that sleep right through the night, coo at me and OH when we play with him and smell gorgeous 100% of the time. Not sure where you're getting your information from but I'm sticking with my version ;)

Oh my - where does one find THAT version?? Never seen it before!!!! Mine have always been the "bearing striking resemblance to Linda Blair vomiting in the exorcist" and explosive smelly poos that go right up the back.

    Hi

After people's advice. The hospital I need to go to when the big day comes is about 1hr's drive away and having recently moved to the area I dont have 'good' friends close by to help me should I need them. OH holds down a job that takes him to London and away on business a lot and I don't think we can expect his employer to allow him to work from the office (which is closer to home) for say, 2 weeks before and after due date in order to allow him to be around.

What are the options at getting to hospital if I'm stuck on my own? Family live 95 miles away! I know I;m only 21 weeks but I'm starting to wonder about this stuff.....

    Thanks
    Lisa

Call up a few taxi firms and see who will be happy to take you to the hospital when you are in labour, find out how much it is and keep this amount in an envelope. Remember and get some maternity mats to sit on when in the taxi in case of leaks, you don't want to get a charge. And go to hospital early, explain that you have no transport and they should be fine.

Always have credit in your phone, all the numbers you will need on your phone and on a card too just in case.

Have your bags all packed and ready sitting close by (not hidden away in a cupboard in your room).

LCK, i got a taxi with DS, but i think it would be acceptable to ring an ambulance if you were about to push

Thanks for that and I'd never heard of maternity mats. I guess it'll cost a pretty penny to go 55 miles (I reckon about £80) so I don't want another charge on top of that plus I couldn't blame them for charging if that did happen. Hopefully it won't come to that but I guess I have no choice other than to manufacture some very good and available friends, very fast!

I haven't started Antenatal classes yet and have been putting off reading up on the details of labour, so need to get my head around how long it 'might' take etc (altho appreciate everyone is different). So, not sure how I'd know if I was about to push......going to be my first and only child this one, especially after the rough 20 week ride that I've had already! Lisa

Maternity mats But you get the same thing in the nappy isle to whatever is cheaper.

I'm guessing it would be during the day you may possible need a taxi, so they should be happy to take you anyway. Can't see any other potion, public transport would be a nightmare! :rotfl:

But usually with your first you get plenty of warning, and the milder contractions can last quite a while. And most folk tend to go at night anyway, if they don't end up getting induced.

Public transport - what is that? :rotfl: I live in North Cumbria, unfortunately it doesn't exist for us. Is it that white/blue and orange bus that goes past our house once a day. I'll start saving for the taxi now and if it is at night and OH is around then I'll have a nice little pot of 'treat' cash to spend. Thanks for the views girls.

I know we've all had the weight discussion, and the bio-oil / mositurising of the bump and boobs discusson. But what about everyones skin - as in facial complexion. This is one area i am actually happy with. I haven't needed to wear foundation in at least 6 weeks. So that saves money, all i do is put on a bit of blusher or bronzer in the morning, because i have such fair coloring.

I wash with boots botanics facial scrub and use nivea soft to moisurise.
And i just know i'm going to put a curse on it, but i have soft, clear skin.
One wonder of pregnancy i am actually liking.:T
