Cracked iPhone Screen - help!!!

I've managed to completely smash the screen on my iPhone 4. It's stll working at the moment with the help of some sellotape!
Has anyone managed to get an iPhone 4 screen repaired? I was told by a friend who used to work in the Apple Store that they can't be replaced as parts are attached to the front screen. He says only the backs can be replaced.
Apple will swap them for a refurb for I think about £130, Apple then refurb yours and use it for someone else's.
The screen has the glass, touch sensor and maybe display stuck together, but not all parts, its certainly fixable, the question is cost.
As it's a 4 it's out of warranty so ask your local market stall type phone person what they charge to do it.0 -
My daughter cracked the screen on hers and orange would not help so I took it to the apple store and they were great. At first they said they would give her a new phone for £140 but, I said we could not afford that and straight away they gave her a new phone. They did tell us that they do not replace the screens now I don't know if that's just the case at our local store or standard but, I would def try apple.0

Any ideas on the iPhone 4S?
I have medical problems and the phone feel through my butter fingers
Any ideas if it can be fixed, rang a local phone store who can fix it £40 but it's an over night service, not sure I want to let the phone out of my sight.
Would be happy to lose sight of it if if it was Apple but not sure about these guys.
Any ideas what Apple would charge? Would I just need to make a Genius Bar appt and take it in?
Thanks0 -
About £150 IIRC -for replacing the entire phone. AFAIK they don't do repairs.
So I would get a new or refurb phone?
Managed to get through to local store 20 miles away, they said £120 for a replace not screen. Do they not advertise the fact that it's not a repair?
Thinking that might be worth thinking about0 -
A refurb that is likely to be like new.0

Apple don't repair as you would normally expect.
For anything but the simplest fixes (such as a smashed rear panel) they'll take your phone, back it up, and give you a refurbished one in it's place, and that becomes yours. The old one goes away and gets repaired and refurbished and goes on to someone else.
You (or the Apple bod) then restores a backup to your phone and its done.
Its faster that way (ie about 20 minutes in store) than the time for someone to do the repair in the store, and it means they don't have to tie up a repair man in a store when there may not be faulty phones coming in all the time.0 -
If they don't do repairs, where do they get there refurb phones from?
So if I book a Genius Bar appt, I walk in with old phone and 20 mins or so later walk out with 'new' one?
Must admit I'm tempted, but money is tight as always, my phone was as new anyway.0 -

Sorry Not being that clear.
Apple DO repair the phone but generally not in store, and you don't get your old phone back.
You take your phone in, Apple replace it with a refurb, and log the replacement in their system. You leave with the refurb.
That's it. You never see the original phone again, and as far as Apple are concerned your old phone is now theirs, and the refurb yours.
Your old phone is returned to a repair centre, repaired, refurbished and goes to someone else in exchange for a damaged phone they bring in.So if I book a Genius Bar appt, I walk in with old phone and 20 mins or so later walk out with 'new' one?
Yep, One reason to book is they'll know what device you have so have a spare ready if required, saves you arriving and they have no stock to hand if a swap is required.
You can also do it by mail order, if getting to a store is hard.Must admit I'm tempted, but money is tight as always, my phone was as new anyway.
If its out of warranty a local place will be cheaper, but you said you were not comfortable with that.0
