Does anyone know if the screen can be replaced? I went to one shop and they said it couldn't because it's attached to the lcd display, but it was O2 and I'm not sure they knew what they were on about. You can't retrospectively get insurance on an iPhone either, and it's an 18 month contract...
Help please!!!!!!
You haven't said what iPhone it is 3g/3gs/4 ???
If it's a 3g or 3gs the screen will be cheaper and easier to fix. This is becuase you can get the touchscreen and the actual lcd screen separate so if only one part is broke (screen scracked but picture still perfect) or if the touchscreen works but the lcd is smashed you only have to replace one part.
On the other hand the LCD and touchscreen are glued together at the factory for the iphone 4 therefore you have to buy the whole unit, so companies charge more for repair.
I would recommend i-phone-repairs (then add .co.uk). They have a facebook, twitter to see feedback from people that have used them...
Hope this helps.0 -
My daughter dropped her Iphone 4 and cracked the screen she went to the Apple store who wanted to make an appointment for her to come back a few days later. My neice who was with her told them that she urgently needed the phone as my daughter is due her baby any day and needed her phone. They told her it would cost £146 took the phone from her and went and spoke to someone and came back and as a goodwill gesture gave her a new phone and wished her well. Well done Apple.0

My iphone 4 vibrated so much, it fell of my desk and the front screen was shattered ! I took it into Apple last night and they said, can't replace the screen, would have to replace the whole phone. If it happened again, it would cost £119, but this time.. i could have a new iphone for free !! Can't beat Apple for the best customer service EVER !!0

a friend gave me their old iphone 3g as the screen was cracked, touch screen stopped working, on off didn't work.
Thought i would give it a go a repairing it as nothing to lose.
I bought new back new on/off button and new back from ebay and have rebuilt phone in the new back - i admit it was not easy! Just the cracked screen to replace now and I have ordered a complete LCD and new glass screen + digitizer from ebay for £25. Old screen comes off fairly easily (you remove two small screws and can either suction screen off with kit come with replacement or lever it out, carefully removing two ribbons attaching it), just drop the new screen in, replace ribbons and two small screws and i will be finished (hope my postie is fast as I want to finish it now.)
I have to admit that i would not have been brave enough if the phone wasn't really old and not working at all beforehand. NEVER done anything like this before... I am a complete novice.
might be worth a go yourself. check youtube and watch a few other people do it first so you know what to expect.0 -
I keep my iphone 4 in a leather protective case. Today I had the phone next to me on my desk with the case flipped open and noticed a crack on the screen. It had not been there the last time I used it. I couldn't believe it, I had not dropped it within the previous 20 minutes since I had last used it. I carried on working and heard a small noise, looked at the phone and another huge crack appeared before my eyes! I literally watched it appear on the screen. I bought it from Carphone Warehouse on a vodafone contract. Will I be better off contacting Carphone Warehouse or Apple directly? Of course, no-one is going to believe my story that it self-destructed in front of my eyes with no dropping it or touching it0

@Lolly1968 I'd see about a local genius bar, they really are quite useful, then again given just how much money apple make off of every tiny "upgrade" they can afford to be a bit kind with their replacements, the screen cracking on its own could have been down to the temperature, weak glass like that on an iPhone is especially weak so it's possible that there was a rapid change in heat and it put strain on your phone.
I do however suggest not sending your phones off to companies that aren't either Apple, your service provider or the place you bought it from, the risk of loss, extra damage and theft is higher and should that happen you'll wish you'd just gone to apple and possibly given them the £100 since you'd then have to buy an entirely new phone but again, the genius bar is a great place to head to first with any problems, they love to give gestures of good will.0 -

Sorry to hear about this issue.
i would contact cpw first in any normal case, however the best people and for the best of efficiency i would book an appointment with the apple genius bar, search apple genius bar on google.
then explain the situation, they may have come across this situation before and will use their discretion to replace your product free of charge (if in warranty) although its a obvious sign of accidental breakage.
They may diagnose the problem further and find this situation and your explanation to be correct.0
