Cracked iPhone Screen - help!!!

My other half has managed to drop his iPhone and crack the screen. It still works, but the crack seems to be spreading and it's only a matter of time before it stops working. Does anyone know if the screen can be replaced? I went to one shop and they said it couldn't because it's attached to the lcd display, but it was O2 and I'm not sure they knew what they were on about. You can't retrospectively get insurance on an iPhone either, and it's an 18 month contract...

Help please!!!!!!

You need to contact o2 or Apple who can repair it, but you'll probably looking at least £100, and I guess about £150. There are 3rd parties who will repair it but it will void any warranty with Apple if they do.

May be worth checking her / (your if you live together) household insurance as that may cover it to some degree.

No you can't and it's fraud if you did try, insurance is to cover possibilities not a cheap way to get a fix after you break something. It's not valid for faults before the insurance was taken out...

Thanks for the help. I've been in to a different shop and they quoted £120 to replace it. Think we're a bit stuck really, they suggested selling it on ebay as an iPhone with a cracked screen and that I'd still get good money for it, but not sure I'm too comfortable with that. Darn those stone floored kitchens!

Thanks anyway, looks like the sim card is going back into the old brick for now.....

I cracked my screen earlier in the year as well (they seem to crack very easily!) and O2 will arrange for it to be replaced, the cost I was quoted was about £130. Apple did quote a cheaper price, I think it was about £80 or £90, so you should contact your nearest store.

Thanks, I might try getting to an apple store. I would put a case on it, but it makes them really big and clunky, so almost feels as though it's defeating the purpose.....

I understand that if you phone up your local apple store and make an appointment at the genius bar, they will be more likely to help you out (this is the certainly case if the phone breaks down of its own accord - if you don't make an appointment they won't help you). Probably worth a phone call!

I've heard similar - that Apple are far more likely to help you than O2. Apparently if you call them they will send a courier to come and collect, take it away, assess it, and call with a price. This as opposed to 02's "well if you didn't take insurance out at the time you're stuffed" sounds like a better option to me.

But if it's still in it's 12 month warranty you blow any warranty left. I'm not saying jsut use apple, but consider what happens in case anything else goes before deciding.

If your really technically minded you can buy the parts on Ebay for £50 or so and do it yourself...
  • Hi, my brother broke his LCD as well, it wasn't even dropped from very high either. none the less he simply whent to the apple store and they fixed the screen there and then, however it cost him alot of money! since then ive seen online stores that are selling the replacements for around 25 pounds! you can even do the repair yourself if your brave :P - best ive seen is itstek so far, but there are other people selling it online.
