Hi noticed this thread and seen as I cant figure out how to start my own I thought I would join in Hope thats ok or someone can point me in the right direction!
Basically I have an Iphone 3gs that I have just smashed the screen on and want a bit of advice
My contract runs out in 1 month and I will be due an upgrade!
I have insurance through my bank which charges £50 excess for accidental damage.
Does anyone know if they will just repair the phone and give me it back or are the likely to upgrade it to say a iphone 4!
I dont want to pay £50 to fix a phone thats worth £40 that doesnt seem sensible.
I could wait untill my upgrade in 1 month but I need my phone and dont see why I should pay insurance and not use it if I need it!!
    Any help greatly appreciated

Usually they give you a refurb.

    No chance.

Neither do I. What's the point in insuring a £40 phone?

my screen cracked today unfortunutely :( i had it in a case aswell
got some good advice though from the guys at ...
found a cheap fix :) gonna try myself

Glass is an odd substance, think about a pint glass they can be dropped and sometimes bounce a few times, but other times a small knock can shatter the glass.

A case may help but a small impact if at the right angle can shatter the screen.

Remember if the phones in warranty it may be better to get Apple to do it, not what you want to hear but retains warranty, if it's out of warranty then almost anyone can do it if they are technically minded enough and can carefully follow instructions.

Good point, edited my post and reported it as spam..
  • Instead of paying to have a broken screen replaced why not buy a protector?

I found one on a site called toughnrugged or you can search for a Guardex screen protector on Google. I can't post a link as it's against the rules.

The video is enough to convince anyone !!

At £35 INC vat and delivered, it's a great way to protect rather than replace.

I've managed to completely smash the screen on my iPhone 4. It's stll working at the moment with the help of some sellotape!

Has anyone managed to get an iPhone 4 screen repaired? I was told by a friend who used to work in the Apple Store that they can't be replaced as parts are attached to the front screen. He says only the backs can be replaced.

I am sure you can repair the screen but again it will cost around £100.
I have had it done on my previous iphone.

best option sell it to someone who can repair it. as i think Iphone 4 are usually worth around £100 anyway.
