Cracked iPhone Screen - help!!!

245

Comments

  • Any advice for water damage? I dropped it and the screen's fine, no cracks or faded bits, but it went face down into a puddle and now the touch screen isn't working.

I took it to my local phone shop to see if they could fix it but apparently it's screwed up the "biometric display" whatever the hell that is.

I'm about ready to give up, bite the bullet and buy a new one but just exhausting all other options before a fork out another £400 - INSURANCE next time. Definitely!!!

Phones have water sensative bits of stickers in them, usually any company will jsut say no if they are indicating water ingress.

The iphone does not have a "biometric display", but water ingress could cause any number of faults, from shorts, to grit damaging circuits.

If you have contents away from home/ accidental damage cover on your home insurance you should be able to claim on that. Cheaper to add to this that get standalone phone insurance and probably a better service.

On a random one, this might be useful to anyone with a broken iphone. Watchdog (available on i player this week) reveals how apple may be voiding warantees due to 'water damaged' iphones, even though the phones never got wet. It's because the two outer tabs detecting water are easily set off, but the inner one which shows if the phone has been submerged or not has not been triggered. It's worth getting them to check further to prove if it's water damaged or not. This may be relevant to the poster who dropped their phone in a puddle, I would get them to check the tabs on the inside to see if there was sufficient water damage to break the screen. I would say a puddle would only cause surface damage to the two outer tabs, I don't know if this would have affected the screen. You may still be able to get them to fix it if they find the water damage is not extensive, although I know you admit to dropping it in a puddle, I would say that should not break a phone (isn't it like using it in the rain? depending on how deep the puddle was lol).

I have a Nokia for less than £10 lol and I can throw it at a wall or probably swim with it lol and it'll be fine. It's like a tank. But, it's no iphone. However, makes a call like it's supposed to and you can play snake whoop lol!

quite a few bank accounts have phone insurance for free (eg natwest advantage gold account, smilar hsbc premier accounts etc). so if you have such accounts then worth contacting them. but you would have had to register the phone with them and only make a claim if you had already registered the phone make model IMEI etc with them before the incident happened. i dont know if there is a colling off period and i dont know the excess charged etc. this might be cheaper than stand alone insurance and no worry of premiums going up if you have to make a claim!

I dropped my 3GS, screen cracked badly, I purhcased THIS ,did the repair myself, phone looked perfect after! In fact so perfect that when I went to the Apple store a week later regarding a seperate issue they replaced my phone under warranty ;) The problem only cost me a tenner rofl! So ignore all the people that say about voiding warranty, if youre really careful, take your time and think about it then maybe, just maybe a crisp £10 note might save the day.

p.s the repair is very easy apart from one thing......removing the glass from the mid frame using a hair dryer, patience will pay off though.

If you are near the end of the contract then hang on as there may be some fantastic deals on iPhones very soon.

Both screens fixed here for £85.

It seems others have got it cheaper but I sent phone off one day, they rang me the next with diagnosis and price. I paid over the phone and got it back, fixed and working perfectly, the next day.

    Can't fault them.
